I have NO idea what the other people who reviewed this restaurant ate at BUT there is no way it was at Providence Prime. My husband and I have been going since they opened their doors and we are always welcomed with huge smiles and out of this world food. If your looking for melt in your mouth steaks and class A+++++ service then this is the restaurant. If your looking for your steak to be drenched in butter and loud obnoxious patrons and a meal that will cost you literally 3 times what you will pay at prime then you know where you should go . . . RChris . . not!!!! Prime is Prime.

Let me preface my comments by saying I am not a local but do love the Providence restaurant scene! Whenever I'm in town and have the need for the best prime cuts around I used to go to Providence Prime on the hill. Used being the operative word here people! These cuts are far from prime quality I had become accustom to! They were choice at best and were dry and ate like iron. I checked and they are no longer buying from Allen Brothers in Chicago and haven't for years. What is going on at Providence Prime? Take your dollars and grab a great Prime steak at Ten or Mills don't waste it on Providence Choice!

We enjoyed our first visit to Prime tonight. I had the Filet Mignon Poivre, and my husband had the Steak Diane tips. We started by sharing the tomato and mozzarella salad. Our waiter was Neil (sp?). We watched the servers, and everyone was wonderful! My filet came with a head of roasted garlic and a sprig of rosemary. I cleaned my plate and took my delicious broccoli rabe side home. We misunderstood that they considered the potatoes in my husband's dinner the side, so we had to pay extra for the creamed spinach. It was pricey, but delicious, with nice service, and interesting decor. The music was as wonderful as the food. We had a great evening! I gave it four stars because it was pricey and because the extra charge for the spinach was not clear.

We have been to Providence Prime on several occasions, and visited it recently. Very disappointed will never go back the portion sizes are very small the drink prices way out of line for Federal Hill. Too bad it was such a nice place before they renovated and now it looks like a diner. With so many other steakhouses in RI don't bother visiting this one. DOWNHILL!!!

I HAVE BEEN TO MANY STEAK HOUSES AND THIS ONE IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST. THE SERVICE WAS AWFUL AND THE FOOD WAS JUST FAIR. TRYING TO ORDER THE MEAL THE SERVICE HELP IS TALKING TO SOMEONE ELSE ABOUT WHAT THEY DID THE NIGHT BEFORE . NO WONDER THAT THE FOOD CAME OUT AWFUL.. THE SIDES WERE LUKE WARM. SAVE THE MONEY AND GO TO ONE OF THE OTHER STEAK HOUSE IN PROVIDENCE..

We had an anniversary dinner at Providence Prime some time ago. Never again!!! My food was okay, although very pricey, but my husband's was awful. He sent his dinner back to be cooked as it should have been, and clearly the whole plate had been nuked. It was disgusting to have that happen at such a pricey place. We continuously go to Ten Prime Steak house (no relation to Providence Prime), and have no qualms about the priciness, as you get everything exactly as it should be, with no rudeness at all if you have a complaint. THAT is how it should be when one is paying forty plus dollars for a steak .

I agree with the previous posting. The server knew her menu and was pleasant but when a steak house cannot cook a steak correct after 2 times, I refuse to pay for the meal nor do we want it. Again, the owner was rude and tried to explain to us the cut of beef and how it was cooked. I could care less, just cook it correctly. When you order 2 steaks at medium and it comes out twice as rare but cooked on the outside. They wanted $ 75 just for two cuts of basic meat.
He should teach his kitchen how to cook a piece of meat , the staff knows how to present the meat.

Save your money and go to the"99"

Last month a large party of us ( over 20 ) ate in a private room at this restaurant. Evidently, there was a mix up in that the ONE waitress that served our entire party delivered the rare duck to the people that wanted their duck well done and vice versa. The party was so large that we did not realize the error amongst ourselves nor did the waitress realize she had made an error and those with the rare duck sent it back. There was a dispute later regarding a charge for the duck dinner that was left on the table; it was not returned to the kitchen by the waitress but not eaten by the diner either. This would not be a problem except that the owner of the restaurant accosted two of the women diners outside the restaurant having a cigarette and berated them by saying that our party wouldn't know good food as we had never been to a good restaurant like this one etc. As someone who has eaten at restaurants everywhere from Four Ways, Bermuda, the Santa Barbara Biltmore and Mama's Fish House on Maui to Mesa Grill, NYC and Nevsky and Koppelis in Helsinki, I found these remarks to be patently offensive. I found the quality of the ingredients used in the food at Providence Prime to be outstanding but the preparation was distinctly unimaginative and boring. One waitress to run up and down stairs for 20 people was a bit taxing on the poor girl who did her best. The owner was belligerent and arrogant and I would not waste another dime in this establishment.
