Rumbi's is one of my favorite places for dinner (a bit too expensive for lunch). I always order the fish tacos or the blacked fish with rice and a salad. The food is consistently good and you get a good amount for the money. You cannot compare a place like this to fast food price wise, because the quality is A LOT better. The previous review who said they can get the same burger at McDonalds is full of it, there is no comparison.

Plus Rumbi (at least in Colorado) offers beer and wine, which is great to have at this type of restaurant (glasses of yellow tail are only $3!). The only thing I haven't ordered yet are the wraps, but thats just because I don't see the point in paying $6 for something that I can easily make at home.

Rumbi's has become my first choice in lunch venues. Everyone I have brought to the restaurant raves about the flavors and portions and we now choose this place to eat whenever we are in need of a great meal. I have also seen many of my friends at the restaurant when I dine there.
The only time I personally ever complain about a place is when I am in need of extra TLC and short on cash and then there isn't a restaurant around that could please me so maybe that was the prolbem with the discontented customer below.

I don't quite understand that other comment. Rumbi is very generous with their portion size and i believe that equates to the price being less than $10/meal. It is very reasonable. The sandwiches are "ono"..meaning delicious and represent the hawaiian flavors the best a mainland restaurant can. The restaurant is a chain, however it is quite true that it is locally owned and operated as they are franchised out. The salads are incredibly large and full of many veggies, protein, and some times fruit. A salad at CPK for the same price is the size of a saucer, for comparison. The salads at Rumbi probably hold an entire held of lettuce. The rice bowls are substantial in size as well and many costumers tend to take at least half of it home with them. It is a friendly atmosphere with welcoming workers. I am there quite often. I enjoy the fact that much of the menu is healthy. They even have a menu for people with a gluten intolerance.

job well done, Rumbi!

I have been to Rumbis a few times and I have not been very impressed at all. It is a good concept but the restaurant itself failed to meet my expectations as an "island grill." I gave the food a four because on two different occasions I ordered a salad from them I ended up grinding sand between my teeth which besides being painful made the salad taste like dirt, that was not pleasant at all. The sandwiches I had were ok but could be easily duplicated by McDonalds for about 5 dollars instead of almost 7 and they don't even include a drink. As for being an Island Grill and only offering two seafood items, shrimp, and one fish they definitely went wrong there with the menu. The service is also sub par, all the servers look like they have bad heigene practices, and do not care once they leave your food on the table. The one woman who was always very hospitable no longer is employed there, and no one else really seems to care. The value is terrible especially for not being a full service restaurant. Most meals on the menu are around $7 maybe more and none include a drink. I could sit down at a full service diner or another restaurant and get fully taken care of for the same price. The atmosphere is ok but decorations look cheaply done. And it isn't very enjoyable to eat your meal surrounded by tables with dirty dishes on them that attract swarms of flies. And don't be fooled by the locally owned and operated sign on the doors, Rumbi is definitely a chain restaurant. I would not recommend eating here, but rather choose from the wealth of other great quality and unique restaurants Boulder has to offer.
