I recently had breakfast at Allegro's and was impressed by the delicious offerings despite the small space and limited parking. Very good breakfast. They give you plenty for a good price. The bacon is not that thin stuff, loaves of bread are delivered fresh in the morning from a bakery on the same street. Go on internet and check the pics.... that's what got me to go there and the food.

Allegro's is a small restaurant dominated by a lunch counter and frequented by working people, cops and an occasional lawyer. I just had chicken saltimbocca there--and it matched the best food I have received anywhere in Hartford.

It's a dive! But they make some good breakfast, instead of regular toast they have hand sliced Italian bread, instead of sausage links they have good ol' Italian sausage. Home fries are perfect, cash only. It gets busy at times but well worth it.

The service at Allegro Cafe is horrible. If you place a to go order they will tell you to pick it up in 20 minutes and if you show up 40 minutes later I can guarantee they did not even start cooking the order. This has happened to me every single time I ordered. I took a year half off from ordering food from this establishment and took a shot on 10-3-09 and it is the same story. Food was not ready so I walked out. How hard is it to cook an egg? I could get a well done steak from Ruth Chris quicker than an order from Allegro Cafe.
