My family and I had been loyal customers to Sanford's for years until now. We attended a retirement party for one of our friends on 9/15/23 and had the entire basement rented out. When we went to order food our waitress, Katrina, told us that the party was on a limited menu so if we wanted to order from the regular menu, we would have to go upstairs. So, my husband and I go upstairs and we were immediately met with attitude and aggression from the barmaids, Paisley and Brynn. While trying to place our order, they kept telling us that the wait time was getting longer, the kitchen is full, etc (doing anything they possibly can to not take our order). Finally, they told us they were no longer taking orders (even though orders kept coming in- we watched servers adding orders into the pos system). When we finally got frustrated and asked for a manager, they REFUSED to put our order in at all.

The manager, Megan, came out and recognized that we are regular customers, apologized and then told us she would make sure the kitchen made our food. She goes and talks to the kitchen, comes out and says "the kitchen refuses to make this order. They are too busy". While she was there, Megan witnessed Paisley being extremely aggressive and rude to ANOTHER customer. I told her to watch her behavior and when Paisley saw us all observing her, she walked over and started yelling at us in front of Megan! The "manager" did absolutely nothing about it!! So, after over an hour of just trying to order food, we left. Us and our children missed our retirement party because Sanford's made it impossible. To make matters worse, we were the ONLY members of our party to be REFUSED food and service.

The next day my husband and I called to speak to the owner. We go in and are met by Julian Yates who is all but a child at maybe 20 years old. He greets my husband but completely ignores me. I actually had to ask him to speak somewhere privately because he stood having this sensitive discussion in the front doorway of the restaurant in front of customers. We explain what happened. Julian came up with nothing but excuses; "he's been gone for the summer", "they had a rough night" "they were busy and in bad moods", etc. We even had explained that his staff treated us this way in front of his "manager" Megan. He offered us free food, etc. the problem is, we didn't care about the food. We cared and were expressing our concerns about how we were treated with disrespect and flat out refused service for no reason. I explained to Julian that if I treated my clients this way, I wouldn't have a job. Julian's solution? He asked us to LEAVE because my comment was "confrontational". I asked for his fathers phone number who is the real owner, and he told me "he is never here".

While we were leaving, we noticed a new picture of a slavery plantation proudly hung up in the hallway. When it was brought up to Julian he said "that's how we show our southern hospitality" and he walked away!! We were speechless and disgusted by his response. Our family was the only family at our retirement party who have people of color. Now we completely understand why we were refused service. We were singled out and targeted by Sanford's staff.

Clearly, Sanford's is ran by the servers, not by the managers or owner. If you want amazing service, great food and a place who doesn't discriminate against your family or single you out, do not go here. We will never step foot in this place again.

To the owner, Mr.Jim Yates- Do better at being a present business owner and make sure your staff, acting owner and managers are properly trained. You should also take down that slavery plantation picture. SHAME ON YOU FOR DISPLAYING THAT AND YOUR SON STATING ITS HOW YOU SHOW YOUR SOUTHERN HOSPTALITY. My husband is a retired United States Marine, and an African American man, who fought for your freedom of speech to be so utterly disgusting and disrespectful. Do better.
