Some of the most freshly made food I've ever had in a restaurant. Everything was very tasty; good home-style Italian food like it came out of your Nana's kitchen. The antipasto was authentic and had good variety, lettuce and fixings were very fresh, the soup was rich and thick, and the entrees featured al dente pasta, fresh sauce, tender chicken, and moist meatballs. For a buffet it was really incredible; no dried out or overcooked food. Our server was friendly and checked back frequently. Even the owner asked us our opinion! There was nice dinner music with an Italian flavor which we really enjoyed. It's a relaxed atmosphere with excellent food. In the Northeast, restaurants like this are very common, but there are far fewer in Tucson so this is a treasure for transplanted New Englanders. Four of us had dinner, and amongst all of us we tried just about everything. There was not a single complaint and we'll all be telling our friends to try Contessa. For the price you can't beat the food.
