Re-posted Review...
AVOID 'THE CHEESE PLATE' BY ALL MEANS!!! It is under the new ownership, and the new owner is greedy and disgustingly unpleasant.

My fiance and I went to The Cheese Plate on Thursday around 4 pm. There was no one in the restaurant but the owner. It started off on a bad note. The owner told us he'd be right with us. However, it took him ten minutes to come up to us (granted, we are THE ONLY people there). He put 2 bottles of wine on the table. I kind of figured that those were the two "Special Wines of the Week" that they charge $20 for, as oppose to all other wines that go for $25.

I told him right away that I have a Groupon that expires at the end of the week, and that in fact I have two, and politely inquired if I can use both of them. I explained to him that I originally bought one for my mother, but she ended up purchasing one herself, so now I am stuck with two, and I have to use them by the end of the week because that's when they expire. I also told him that we live in the Narragansett area and it's far for us to travel twice in one week.

In response to my question, whether or not I can use two Groupons, the owner obnoxiously asked me to get the Groupon out to see what the regulations were. Then he goes on to tell me, in a very matter of fact unapologetic way that he can not go against the regulations. Other wise, he exclaimed, customers will complain about him and he will no longer be able to access Groupon privileges.

A few mintites later he came back to tell me that a customer can only use one Groupon for themselves, and they can purchase another one for a friend. Then he told me that some people have in fact bought several for themselves in the past, but used it at different sittings. Then he had the audacity to tell me that I had 6 months to use both of them. All the while he was speaking to me in a condescending scolding tone, as if I was a school girl who just got an F on a test. And the worst part about it all, is that he wouldn't leave our table for several minutes after scolding me, as if waiting for my response!!!

My first reaction was to get the F#$& out of there. But I had 2 Groupons at $30 each, and I wasn't gonna "eat" it, or let him have it. Meanwhile, we were still the only people there. 35 minutes later!!! (and I know that because I checked in at The Cheese Plate on Facebook), our plate of cheeses arrives. I don't know why it took 35 min. Maybe they had to milk a cow or a goat, and make cheese right there, there is no excuse for the delay.

An hour later we are done, and want to take the remainder home. Apparently, the older female server who was assisting him did not hear us. She just brought us the check. Way back in the day they brought out a few pieces of this decadent chocolate and yummy candied nuts with the check, but not anymore.

We ask her what happened to our doggie bag (we ordered 7 cheeses), with the left overs. She simply tells us she did not hear and will return with the change!?! Now, I have waited tables in the past, and clearly, this is not how you please customers who want their left overs. I had to imply that we wanted to take some cheese home. When we got home, I looked in the bag to find 2 pieces of the SAME brie cheese in our doggie bag (not to mention we had at least 5 pieces of varied French cheese)!!! I mean, did they think we would not notice, or won't be able to tell a difference?!?

Lastly, the music was AWFUL. I love jazz, but this was Walgreens/Nursing Home soothing sounds. It was anything but sophisticated. It was some sort of elevator jazz, something along the lines of Kenny G.

Simply put, I used to love The Cheese Plate when Cool Moose owned it. My parents and I would see a play at Second Story, and swing by for a treat of wine and cheese. The new owner ruined everything! Not only is his personality and demeanor awful, but the prices are much higher ($5-10) and the place has no personality. Thank you so much for ruining a great place. We will NEVER RETURN, and I certainly hope that after reading this review, neither will anyone else.
