This restaurant was great when it was bassetsinn...went on Sunday, the food was terrible! The seafood casserole was just awful, we didn't eat it...it a bunch of dark fish, and just flaked up fish. This place has definitely gone down hill! Used to be a great place. They need to clean the place up, it seemed dirty, no wonder some people got sick a while ago !! Also, they need to get a new cook or teach the him/her how to cook ! We were very disappointed! Won't be going there again any time soon ! Oh and even the Bloody Mary we ordered was terrible and tasteless !

This place needs HELP ! Lets start with this being my first time going . Ordered 2 apps. fried ravioli were ok but the calamari was dryer than the lint that comes out of my laundry dryer. Next was dinner. a steak that was ordered med and came well done. Still had good flavor my husband didn’t complain and said it was ok... my dinner, a "Jumbo seafood platter” menu said: Jumbo Fried Seafood Platter 24.95 Fried Clams, Haddock, Scallops, Baked Stuffed Shrimp, Stuffie & Lobster Salad.
First, Jumbo is more like standard size Platter. It had 6 whole belly clams and a piece of haddock that looks like it came out of a “Gordons fisherman box” def. frozen piece of pre made fish. 1 small baked stuffed shrimp and the stuffing was so dry it fell out of the shrimp when I turned it over that the lint from my dryer has more moisture! One horrible Bitter tasting stuffie. … and low and behold, “Oh look” , No lobster salad...seems to be when asked if it came with the meal the waiter replied, “yes” but then came back and told me that the kitchen told him that lobster salad is only included on "Friday nights". I guess the rest of the week they just charge everyone for a phantom seafood salad. So I told him that I should have been charged for the "Junior" because the only extra thing I got on this plate was a terrible stuffy. The waiter said he would see what he can do and came back asking (by this time I am totally done) if I wanted some sauce in a container that they use for pasta !... NO, I wanted lobster salad like the menu stated. No manager, No discount, No anything except for a poor waiter who was left in the dust to feel the brunt of all that was wrong with this meal and nothing to do with him or at his fault but seemed to be all at his expense.
The kitchen didn’t tell him it was missing and should I have not said anything, it would have all been brushed under the rug.... they didn’t know I had a gift certificate because if they did I could only imagine what it would have been that came to the table since it was already worthless to me. I spent 60.00 cash incl. tip and a 25.00 gift card that is Offered on RESTURANTS.COM… DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR AND DRIVE THROUGH BURGER KING INSTEAD !!

Was great in the 80s, they now have this Applebees menu. Ordered calamari, seemed like it was baked out of a box not to stress we got about 14 rings of calamari for 10.95. Veal parm was small portioned, small sides, along with it being an Americanized version of Italian food, it's not Twin Oaks or Pats Italian. Stay away from Bassets Inn.

Not what I expected after all the reviews from the devotees of this restaurant. To be fair, I made several visits. The salads (iceberg) are always watery, the food at times was decent, but over-all found it over-cooked & salty.

Any restaurant that serves iceberg lettuce is not "with it." There is zero nutritional value in that lettuce and it has no taste. Spring greens, arugula, or Romaine are what should be served.

I cant believe the bad reviews I am reading on this page. It is a shame other people didn't share the same experience I did. We had a party of 12 for a 60th birthday party. The food was amazing the service was great. The owner even took the time to introduce himself (a very friendly guy). The salad bar for the extra buck is a bargain. 100% recommended

I feel terrible that these bad reviews may possibly be keeping people from enjoying the Inn!! Always easier to complain rather than give praise, I suppose. I love it and definitely think it's worth a try if you've never been. We have had our ups and downs with the service, which is unfortunate, but we visit often and have several favorite waitresses that are very pleasant. Also, in my opinion, the food is top notch - not fancy - just really GOOD! I feel like it's prepared out of a REAL kitchen...very fresh tasting, nicely presented and always hot. They cater well to special orders and modifications - always willing to create exactly what you want, without feeling like you're putting them out. Love the salad bar - and for those who complain about the $1 charge - get real! Prices are up everywhere...spare the change if you want to load up on their marinaded mushrooms, potato salad, etc - even snail salad on Friday nights. I've seen patrons carry two salad plates of it away at a time and they are probably the same ones on here complaining about the extra fee. I find their prices to be very fair and their portions generous. Favorite meals are chicken parm, baked stuffed haddock, chicken sorrentino, steak ala mama, and all broiled or fried seafood dinners are good. Quite the selection for whatever you're feeling like that night. Oh, and they pour a real NICE glass of wine! It's a shame that others reviewing on this site did not enjoy themselves, but I would have to think that for every one of them - there are hundreds more that share my thoughts on the Inn. Business seems to be going well for them when we visit - dining rooms full of happy customers. I think you should check it out for yourself.

MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE INN FOR MANY YEARS NOW AND NEVER HAD A BAD MEAL..WE ALSO GO FOR LUNCH AND WE ALWAYS HAVE BEEN TREATED GOOD....THE HOSTESS IS VERY PLEASANT AND THE WAITRESS ARE GREAT...IT'S OUR FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT AND WE'LL CONTINUE GOING

I've just read the negative reviews, and I suppose every place has some bad nights and some bad employees, but my husband and I have been going to bassett's for about 5 years now, and we love it. Every time the food is great, and I get something different almost every time. The salad bar, while awesome, could use a little variety and some more vegetables on it, but since the Barnsider went out of business, where else can you get a salad bar? Sometimes places have off nights, but I am surprised by the negative reviews.

I've been eating at Basset's Inn my whole life. Can't say I've ever had a bad meal.Portions always larger than most . anything I've gotten from steak to seafood has been exceptional.Where else can u go that still has a salad bar, for a measly charge of one dollar. marinated mushrooms are $6 a pound at the store, they give them away with the salad bar ,not to mention the rest of the items. I read some of the bad reviews and don't understand where these people have eaten, maybe it's just other restaurant owners wanting to give Basset's Inn a bad review. After all they are the twin oaks of Warwick. Honestly with the portions and the salad bar i don't know how they make a profit. I've never been anything but delighted at Bassett's inn. Keep the good work! Signed,Robert

My Aunt brought me to Bassets for dinner one Sunday around noon a few months ago and I thought it was wonderful! The service was great and the food was spectacular. I had baked scrod and scallops. No complaints. I went on a Friday night 3 weeks or so ago with a friend and ordered the same food. We were both very happy with our service and our food. So far...the experience at Bassets has been positive for me. I was kind of surprised when I read the bad reviews.

I have to tell you after reading all these reviews I couldn't believe it. I have been going there for the past couple of years and have always had great service as well as the food was excellent and a wonderful salad bar like no one else has.
The hostess has always been very polite and the waitress and waiters have been very respectful.
Food comes out nice and hot and if you are not satisfied they are more than willing to change it for you.
I would highly recommend this resturant to anyone as there is all kinds of food to pick from. I feel there food is right up there to Twin Oakes Resturant in Cranston and the prices are about the same. Go and check it out for yourself and I am sure you will go back again. They have the best Prime Rib around and Baked Stuffed Shrimp.

I have lived literally 5 minutes away from this restaurant for 2 years and never tried it. Saturday night my husband and I decided to give it a try, a "hostess" with absolutely no finesse seated us. Almost 10 minutes later and still no server had come over, finally a server walked by us to pass out food to the table next to us and whispered she would be right over. She then proceeded to pass out the other party's food and walk right past us to the other side of the room. We decided after looking at the menu, with its inflated prices and determining that the atmosphere and employees were sub par to get up and leave. We went to Twin Oaks and sat at the bar and had amazing service and food.

My husband and I went to Bassett's last night for the final time. The hostess was nice but our waiter had other ideas. He came over took our drink order then left. Meantime another group came in, whom evidently were more important than us. They received their drinks and bread and we were still sitting there with nothing... It may seem petty to complain or judge a restaurant on that small incident, but when the waiter looks right at you and then just walks away, in my mind our money is better spent somewhere else. We just got up and left at that point. We won't ever go back there and the owner may want to reconsider his customer service skills and teach it to his staff!

August 03, 2009 - My fiance and I have gone to Bassett's Inn for dinner at least once a week for the last 8 years. Tonight was our last night going there. I noticed a funny odor when we were taken to our booth, (the room with the small bar and 4 booths) It was a musty type of odor, like stale water. I ordered a coffee and he an iced coffee, My creamer was bad, as I poured it into my coffee a big glob of milk came out like glue. I didnt think much about it, I gave the inn the benefit of doubt, one bad creamer was a fluke. I ordered my usual tenderloin tips and he the fried boneless chicken, it was good,, not exceptional but good, there were two ladies in the booth behind us a granmother, mother, and small tot. They ordered before us, and when their food came, I heard the grandmother state that her ham steak tasted funny, the mother tried hers and said the same thing, they told the waiter that something was wrong with their ham, it tasted "funny", he took the plates, and as he passed our table I could see that the ham on both plates were barely touched. The Hostess came to the ladies table, and said, "The ham is fresh as of today" The grandmother said it tastes funny, and I won't eat something that has a foul taste, the hostess then told them she would not take the meals off the bill, I was shocked! The hostess didnt offer another item on the menu, only that they would have to pay full price for a meal that they didnt eat. The hostess was rude to them. As this was happening, there was an elderly couple across from us who ordered coffee, I heard the elderly lady complain that her coffee was bad, the cream had curdled, they brought her a fresh cup and three mroe creamers, Same thing, all the cream was bad. I am not sure if their refridgeration went out, (maybe thats the musty odor) or what happened, but my fiance and I decided to not go there again, By my calculation, they lost 6 good customers over two bad ham steaks, we have often wondered why in the last year, Bassett's Inn seems empty, and now we know why,

Food only marginal, pricey for no better than it is. Biggest issue is they charge for EVERY ice tea refill. AND it's not in the menu, and the waitress doesn't tell you. Naturally not, so that by the end of the meal you have 10 - 15 bucks added to the bill for ice tea. I have traveled for the last 11 years for business, and eat out most every night. I have NEVER been to a restaurant that charges for ice tea refills. Sometimes places charge for soda refill, but never ice tea. When I mentioned this to the manager, she even tried to argue with me that she eats out a lot too, and doesn't think it unusual to charge for ice tea refill. I don't know where she's been eating at, but I've never eaten at a place that charges for ice tea refills. I won't go back, encourage you not to either.

Thank you for those ratings of the Basset Inn. I almost made the mistake of visiting that establishment. Rude and poor service is unacceptable. Hopefully the owners will be taking notice and correcting the employees.

review_stars 04/10/2009 - yes i rolled my eyes at you
the owner was very rude she made us wait over 20 mins to seat us because i ask for a table not a booth but they had no promblem seating five tables before us including a family of five so i ended up at top of the bay in oakland beach food was much better and service was great

I don't know who will be reading this but I do hope someone pays attention to it, My Girlfreind and I went into your restaurant last night Friday 13,09 thinking we were going to have a good meal, we ordered the fish-chips and the salad bar, we went to the salad bar getting very little knowing we were having a big meal, we recieved our fish and chips or should I say Batter with a little fish in the middle, it was so soggy and GREASY we couldn't even eat it, there was so much grease coming out of it the french fries were soaked. I then told the waitress about it and she said she would talk to the cook, when she returned she put the bill in front of me and said the restaurant would only charge us for the salad bar which I origanlly got with my dinner for $1.00 extra, she was very ignorent doing so, what happened to the days where the restaurant would at least say we are so sorry sir can we get you something else? We got none of that, when we were leaving I told the Hosstess at the desk and the only thing that came out of her mouth was, well you did dig into the salad bar, with a personality like hers she belongs working for the DMV not a restaurant, I don't normally do this I'm 62 years old live right down the street from your restaurant for over 30 years ate there many times and in my whole life time I NEVER returned any food to the kitchen so don't think I make a Habit of doing this, I was just so mad by the way your restaurant handled the situation with NO respect to us at all, no one but no one including the one thats reading this would have eaton it, neadless to say I will never eat there again, and hope nobody will ever ask me if I recomend your restaurant because I will tell them the same thing I'm telling you, I am so aggravated with this I was telling my girl I may talk to channel 10, all you had to say is I'm sorry sir we'll tke care of it, instead I paid over $ 25.00 and got a $3.50 bottle of bud a $4.00 glass of wine and two huge salads which included a little lettuce and a few Tomatoes, One would think the way times are now a restaurant or any other business would be a little more courtious with their customers, and I know what that means, Owned my own Bussiness for over thirty years.
