I am really confused how this restaurant has such a high rating. I'm writing this post as a caution to people who are deceived by the overly inflated score this restaurant has.
My partner and I were visiting Richmond to celebrate my birthday as well as our two year anniversary. We decided to go to Fall/Line because of the high reviews. When we arrived, we wanted to get our appetizers in quickly because we were hungry. We tried to order, but were told no by our waitress because she preferred we put in our apps and entrees at the same time. Never had a waitress say "no" to me when trying to order food, especially from a place so expensive and supposedly high end. We then waited 20 minutes before we received water and our drinks, and we were then permitted to put our food order in. The appetizers were fine but very cheap tasting, especially the BLT deviled eggs.
The one entree we had been eyeing since peeping at the menu was the wild mushroom bolognese. We both love mushrooms and it sounded unique. This dish was part of the reason we even went to this restaurant. What we got was tomato sauce with thin slices of seemingly only one kind of mushroom. The sauce tasted liked canned pasta sauce, and it did not even stick to the pasta itself. My southern fried chicken was perfectly fine, but the coleslaw tasted storebought and the mashed potatoes were runny and sad.
The entire meal it felt as if our waitress was ignoring us intentionally. We would routinely see her turn a corner, look at our table with empty dishes and no water and vanish for 15+ minutes. It was not busy when we were there. It made us both feel incredibly unwelcome.
The worst part about this was the fact that we were there for 75+ minutes and it felt like no one wanted us there. As if our presence in the restaurant at that time was some kind of burden. I never expect that kind of treatment when the prices are as high as they are.
I hope others see this review who are considering going to Fall/Line for a special occasion. Save your money. Inquire elsewhere.
