My partner and I, both passionate taco enthusiasts, were eagerly anticipating the opening of a new taco joint in town. Despite coming across a slew of negative reviews regarding their staff, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, attributing these teething issues to their recent establishment. After a few months of patience, we finally decided to pay this place a visit today.
Food: As someone of Asian descent, I was particularly excited about the prospect of savoring the fusion of Asian and Mexican flavors. However, my hopes were shattered into countless pieces. We ordered four tacos - Shrimp Tempura, Korean Beef, Pork Belly, and Kungpao Chicken. The Pork Belly taco was passable, but the other three were a culinary disaster. The Kungpao Chicken, in particular, was an utter disappointment. Its sauce bore no resemblance to the Kungpao I've known in my life; it was excessively strong, excessively salty, and lacked any real depth of flavor. Moreover, the meat was disappointingly cold. The Shrimp Tempura taco arrived devoid of any sauce, rendering it utterly flavorless, as expected. The Korean beef taco failed to deliver any discernible Korean flavors; it was a plain beef BBQ taco with no distinctive characteristics. We also ordered the Chicken Quesadilla, which was sorely lacking in cheese and had a runny filling. The texture was unappetizingly saggy, and the taste left much to be desired. Ironically, the highlight of our meal was the Pepsi. While the concept of fusion cuisine may sound enticing, the execution, marred by a lack of culinary expertise, fell woefully short. It simply didn't work, plain and simple.
Staff: The most distressing aspect of our visit was the discourteous staff. After taking a bite of one of our tacos, I requested another Pepsi from our server. Her response, "Okay, Do you need to-go boxes for the leftovers?" left my partner and me utterly perplexed, as we had just received our food and barely begun our meal. I responded, "we are still working on it," only to receive a curt reply from the staff, "I just wanted to make sure!" Throughout our visit, we were never asked if everything was satisfactory unless we specifically requested more Pepsi or the bill. As soon as we received the check, I hurriedly settled it, eager to leave the premises. I contemplated leaving just a penny as a token of my disappointment but ultimately decided against it. Instead, I left a tip amounting to 15% of the entire bill.
Rest assured, we will never set foot in that establishment again. Period!
