Ill start off by saying i've been here at least 5 other times and enjoyed the experience. so when my family from out of town wanted a nice breakfast location that was family friendly in downtown savannah naturally (as a concierge in the area) i thought of the Funky brunch especially since the kids loves pancakes and drawing. we arrived a little after 11:30 and was told a 45min-1 hour wait, which was fine even though it was pretty hot outside. we finally get a text at 12:30 that our table was ready. As our waitress arrives to the table, we know what we wanted and was ready to order, but she refused and said all she needs right now is drinks(kinda rude) especialy with a 3 year old screaming i want to eattt! we ordered 3 of the Flippin' Funky At The Table meals but only received 2. For some reason our table burner wasn't cooking well it took almost 10 min. for 1 pancake. i just ate here last week 7/15 on my birthday and had the exact same thing so i knew something was wrong. we told another server and also a gentleman cleaning in the dining room. they both said the table was as high as it gets, but still not working.it took about another 20-25 minutes to come back and offer to get pancakes from the kitchen (which I declined because everyone else was already almost done eating) and we didn't have time. The three of us would just stop otw to the beach. I asked for the bill and to speak to a manager who never came to the table. I ended up walking to the counter, asked the young lady can i cash out and to please speak with a manager. she pointed at a guy no more than 5 feet away. he asked what was wrong, and i kindly told him that I love the restaurant, and recommend it often to guest (as I've been a concierge in downtown for the past 8 years.) He told me to hold a sec and walked off. when he came back the situation turned...the lady who he went to get introduced herself, and when i asked if she was the manager she said no IM THE OWNER! I told her about our experience and gladly pay but just wanted to bring it to someone in charge. while speaking with her, she was very nonchalant and dismissive. She told me that our server was not very good and has been receiving lots of complaints, and that the gentleman who we talked to about the table and said he turned it up was, in her words "special ed" and that nobody told her anything. After she said that I told her that was not for me to know, and as a customer that's the last thing that you want to hear is that your spending money at a place who knew before hand that the server isn't good and still proceed to let them work and "not do there job". i mean we didn't even get a refill and was there until almost 2:30pm i also told her that i don think that the 20% gratuity was worth it. My bill came up to $167+ and i didn't even get to eat along with 2 others. i told her id still like to pay my bill, i just wanted to bring the issue to a manager so they'd know about the table. the owner then said well since you said you didn't like the service ill just take off the gratuity and 1 Flippin' Funky At The Table meal. I said thanks but that's not necessary. she then gets flustered and tells the host not to seat anyone else for the day they will just close. I told her that isn't necessary. she then starts going on a rant while I'm STILL TRYING TO PAY MY BILL TO LEAVE. After her going on and on for a few minues i told her to pleases calm down so i could just pay and leave AGAIN. She then waved for the same gentle man (who was supposed to be the manager) as she spews out "you people" comments multiple times...to come over and he starts yelling at me as if I'm a child and not a paying customer. after i told them for the 5th-6th time to just let me pay so i can be on my way, the owner finally gives me the bill for $123 after i pay an my family is walking out she then says "you don't have to ever come back we get plenty of people to stop by. This statement echoed as the door shut so i turned back to ask what was that for, but she then started to cry and act like she hadnt done anything. at that point i decided to never step foot back in this establishment, because how could you treat paying customers in such a way. we did nothing wrong and still wanted to pay for subpar service. how can a owner step out of character with guest telling her their experince. i dont know but they have definetly lost a lot of recommendations from myself and other concierges in the downtown historic district. hopefully the next time the owner learns how to just apologize and be done, but she seems to like to deflect from problems and blame her employees.
