We went with a group of 15 people on a Tuesday night. The atmosphere was ok, the food was ok, portions were good, but value was below average. Service was quick, but for $10 I had a portion which left me a bit hungry. Additionally, the waiter spilled sauce from one of the plates on my coat and splattering my date's coat and splattering it across the back of my shirt. They scrubbed at my coat with a cleaning rag rubbing in the stain. They offered to pay the dry cleaning bill, but didn't reduce the price of either of our meals. I tried to not make a big deal of it, to avoid letting it ruin our (4th) date together. Also I wanted to be reasonable about it and save them money on dry cleaning if possible, so I laundered my coat/shirt myself with stain remover but it took several washes to get the stain light enough to not be easily noticed. I took my date's drycleaning bill in and asked that they instead credit my meal since I didn't send either my coat or shirt to dry cleaning. They seemed hesitant to do this, but they eventually paid the $28 (her meal was still paid full price at ~$10). They argued that it couldn't have been so hard to get out the stain, they splatter things on their outfits all the time. This left me feeling like they were implying I was lying to them. I asked if they could round up the amount (by $2) to be an even $30 to compensate us for the time/gas to run back and forth to the dry cleaner, try to get the stain out of my outfit and to go back to their restaurant with the receipts. They were only willing to round up the pennies on the receipts to the next dollar. I expressed dissatisfaction and they told me that they thought that they had done more than enough offering to pay for the dry cleaning and I got the vibe that they simply didn't care if I was happy or not or if our group came back again or not.

Generally I don't expect much from a restaurant, but in this case, offering to discount our meals would have smoothed things over quickly and made the experience immediately better. Given we were in a group of 15 business professionals, if they discounted 2 meals I assume wouldn't have been a large financial burden. Offering to pay the dry cleaners bill was my expectation too, and although they disagree and believe that they went above and beyond, I think that should be standard at any restaurant when they spill a tomato-based sauce on you that they offer to pay for cleaning. They disagree and think that they did more than required / more than other restaurants.
