I was visiting last week from Florida, as a former native San Franciscan, I had 2 favorite restaurant I wanted to revisit, the clement street bar & grill AND the fisherman's cafe @ 34th & Geary...I also was delighted to visit my favorite dim sum joints on Clement & to purchase my fav spices & sauces from May Way Market!
I had my meal memorized from the decades old menu @ Clement St B&G : crab cakes, the Meyer lemon linquine and a Ny steak with garlic mashed potatoes and the succulent sated fray veggies...well okay my HUBBY & 5 yr old were w/me... I remembered not to order an entree for my little one because of the $6 charge for a clean plate ( I keep a pack of those animal dixie plates in my tote for such occasions thus avoiding the charge..instead I leave that $6 as a bonus gravity to our lovely server). We brought our own bottle of Cab sav as we remembered the wine list is limited and overpriced for our fav label... the owner did greet us but looked at our well behaved, use to dining out child with, well I would have to say disgust. He tried to seat us in the loud back part of the small restaurant but I insisted on a front booth...we came back over an hour later and stop had to wait ( fortified by the delicious & inexpensive dim sum on Clement). Our appetizers were great, as were our main courses, the smallish, thin NY steak was grilled perfectly. Longing for a piece of home for dessert, I placed an order w/our appetizers for the Apple crisp w/vanilla bean ice cream. After enjoying our meal we looked forward to the crisp only to find out it was sold out...I asked for more walnut sourdough bread to console myself. I may come back to this eatery and while I do enjoy most of the mainstays on the menu, I wish they would throw a coat of fresh paint and clean up the dreary interior (including a thorough cleaning of the booths & lighting). Still, I ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS PLACE AS MY FIRST GROWN-UP RESTAURANT I WENT TO FOR SR. PROM DINNER...:) decades ago.

I have been a customer well over 25 years. Harold is very cool, never greets my party as if he has never seen me before. I have been a regular at least once a week...same tired old menu, the fish is frozen, not fresh & we always laugh at the single cherry tomato, cut in half on the dinner salad. The NY strip steak has shrunk, while the price continues to soar yet it is the best tasting thing on the menu. The small bread basket an teaspoon of butter is annoying, especially when you have more than one at the table, what's up with that Harold? Don't order wine by the glass. I believ it is either jug or box wine and simply horrible. I I've seen Harold buying for the grill in Smart &Final! Is business that bad? As one of the only American style restaurants, ugh, next to Hamburger Haven left in the Richmond, it is a shame...same old dusty tired interior, the paper placemats the day old or door out dessert specials in the chalk board. The only reason I continue to go there is because of the waitresses who treat us with respect & continue to celebrate baptismal, graduation, and my love of the steaks & crab cake appetizers. Sunday brunch? I gave up on that years ago...surly waitresses, cheap head basket picking and slow service. WHILE THIS PLACE IS NOT CHILD FRIENDLY, THEY WILL SERVE YOU, THERE IS A CHARGE FOR SPLIT PLATES FOR SMALL CHILDREN, NO CHILD FRIENDLY MENUS (OR PRICES). WE NOW ONLY GO OCCASIONALLY, IF WE HAVE A COUPON...MAYBE 3 TIMES A YEAR. TOO BAD...I MISS THE OLD CLEMENT STREET BAR & GRILL, WITH LUNCHEON SERVICE . BUT IT STILL IS THE PLACE I GO FOR A GOOD, ALBEIT THINNER & SMALLER STEAK DINNER. SAD TO SAY THIS BUT I DON'T THINK THIS PLACE WILL LAST MORE THAN A FEW MORE YEARS AT BEST. ALL OF MY FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS HAVE STOPPED DINING THERE BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF WARMTH FROM THE OWNER, THE CHEAP BREAD BASKETS AND SLOW COOKS...SORRY HAROLD BUT YOU NEED TO RETHINK YOUR MOTIVES FOR THE PLACE & WELCOME YOUR GUESTS...YOU WOULD'MY HAVE TO RELY ON VALUE PAL COUPONS TO GET LONG TIME REGULARS TO COME BACK.

I love this place a lot since I'm here 2 times a weeks, since 1983 until today... is as Super Excellent Fresh food, you could tell, they services never provide as the Canes food at all. That's why I love this place and the price are reasonable. Also the employee they are working in this place more than 20 years, think about it, that means the worker love this place to work with and services.
Come try this place they have free Salad or A soup to choose either one since this business run more than 20 years ago until TODAY!!

I have easily eaten here more than 30 times over the years and I've never had anything but an outstanding meal. Whether it's dining with local friends or with visiting out-of-town friends and rellies, the food always gets rave reviews, as does the service. They always have vegetarian choices and a great selection of fresh seafood options as well so everyone in the party can find delicious options. Leave room for dessert, especially if their incomparable creme brulee is on the menu!
