I went on a busy Thursday night with a reservation and was glad I booked in advance since no earlier tables were available. The food was consistently delicious and authentic, with huge portions and great service, making it a solid spot to catch up with friends despite the lively, sometimes loud ambiance.

This is a real San Francisco institution. The only criticism I've heard in over 50 years is that the portions are too large. You can split entrees. The beef is dry aged on site in a basement cooler. Not fancy, but good, clean food...by far the best food bargain in San Francisco.
