06/26/2011 - Old Coot
I have dined at Foo Kee numerous times; mainly for lunch so as to revel in the lower price but also at dinner when there are additional offerings.
Generally, I have found all the items I piled on the plate or merely sampled to be tasty and consisting of quality ingredients.
Quality as in no gristly chicken, no off-tastes or any apparent indicators of sub-par or "old" ingredients.
The chef is a "true" Chinese chap from mainland China; as is the sole waitress.
Foo Kee is a buffet-only restaurant without a separate menu.
This allows the chef to concentrate upon keeping the buffet constantly filled with fresh input.
As is typical for me I forgo the Mongolian grill offering.
The numerous dishes in the TWO buffet aisles is more than ample for me.
One offering I especially enjoy is the egg foo young; an offering so few buffets or "normal" Chinese food places offer.
Best of all, the egg foo young is prepared in a manner I delight in.
There are many ways to prepare egg foo young and this chef's output is in the way I prefer; chock-full of various veggies with the egg not over-cooked. Try it plain (as I prefer) or try various toppings available.
Delightful is the mushrooms in sauce. Low-calorie and low-carb. Oh yummy!!!!
A warning; communication with the staff MAY require a bit of effort BUT, the staff is pleasant and appreciative of your presence!!!
There IS a bit of a language and cultural gap that can slightly impair communication but I feel that adds to the "aura," the "presence" of Foo Kee.
There are many other offerings that vary from normal Chinese buffet fare to above-the-norm in tastiness but on the whole; I am very pleased with my entire meal at Foo Kee and recommend the place highly.
