review_stars 12/17/2014 - MANAGEMENT NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY
Went to Bob Evans on Tue Dec 16 2014. Went with Father-in-Law and 3 year old son as a guys night out. It was family night at Bob Evans and my son wanted pancakes. We arrived a little after 7pm and resturaunt was fairly busy. Service was great and the servers especially Heather went out of their way to make our evening very enjoyable. Food was good. My son was well behaved for the entire meal and watched videos on his ipad (kudos for the free wifi that Bob Evans provides).

We were having a really good time up until we were leaving. Around 8:15 we waited in the cashier line for about 5 minutes, my son being 3 years old and becoming tired asked a couple of times for candy which I told him no as it was his bed time. The assistant manager Tim seeing the length of the line opened up a second cash register and we approached. While I was getting my wallet out and handing Tim the ticket, my son patted the skittles in front of the register (you know, the full counter display placed strategically at child eye level) and said "dadda I want skittles." As my son picked up a bag of skittles, I stopped laid down my wallet and took the skittles from my sons hand to place them back in the display saying to my son, "no we are not getting skittles, it's your bed...." at that moment the Assistant Manager Tim, literly raised his voice interupting what I was saying to my son with "SUNNY, DON'T TOUCH THE CANDY!, THAT IS RUDE AND NO ONE WILL WANT TO BUY IT..."

I stopped what I was saying to my son and returned Tim's interuption with my own, cutting him off saying "Excuse me???". Before he could utter another word I immediately informed him that he will NEVER interupt me while I am speaking with my son or dare to address my son directly, if he has a problem with anything my son is doing, he will speak to me and never my child. This assistant manager replied to say that well my son was "TEARING UP THE DISPLAY", which was a blatant and bold lie directly to my face trying to justify his actions of not only yelling at but insulting my son (at the time I was speaking to and correcting his behavior as his father) .

Now, as every parent has experienced, a tired three year old patting and picking up a bag of candy that has been purposely placed to grab his intention does not harm or "TEAR UP" anything. An unharmed bag of skittles laid back down (actually by me, not my son) in the M&M instead of the Skittle bin apparently entitles Bob Evans management to be a total and complete jerk to not only myself, but directly to a 3 year little boy.

As a parent I am furious and will NEVER go to this restuarant again. Whatever power trip gives this assistant manager the right to not only interupt my parental authority, addressing and verbally assaulting a 3 year child for wanting candy (during "Family Night" no less) is beyond what I would ever expect from any resturaunt let alone Bob Evans, which in my experience has always been focused on the family experience.

On the way home my son kept asking why the man yelled at him. How does a parent explain that, at the place where less than 10 days before Chistmas, we are having a good time, laughing and enjoying the food and interaction with the host and serving staff (Especially both Ashley and Heather, whom are some of the best wait staff I have experienced), Tim the assistant manager takes upon himself to ruin the whole experience by yelling at a child who has behaved himself the whole night, is tired and asking for candy (which inadvertly has been dangled in front of him by the marketing plan of the corporation.)

Tim is the worst thing to ever have happen to this store and Bob Evans brand name. I myself will never set foot inside this resturaunt while Tim is employed and I encourage all parents to boycot this restuatant as well. The actions, attitude and fake apologies of this one man are totally unacceptable and he does NOT belong in any position dealing with children or the public, let alone being allowed to represent a family friendly company and brand name as management.

This experience with this one person is truly a shame as it has ruined a pretty great experience where everyone and everything else in this resturaunt was family friendly, wonderful and went far beyond what I would have expected.
