Good eating

Best fried oysters since leaving Louisiana. They were big and plump and breaded lightly. A dozen could fill up most people.

Very disappointed in the food. Two of us ordered chicken fingers with onion rings. One bite taken on both meals and they only took off one meal when we complained.
Also asked for a military discount and they do not honor our service men and women.
Will never return to this place again.

We eat there whenever possible. We love the hush puppies & the crab legs are always delicious.

Terrible experience. Ordered broiled fish..wasn't done, sent it back, still cold. Terrible customer service. Paid 50$ for cold fish we didn't eat. Won't return

I'm only giving it a one star because that's as low as it goes. I took my Husband and FIL there to celebrate Hub's negative test results for cancer. Having lost my SIL to cancer this was a big deal. Anyway the service was good but the steaks we ordered medium rare were well done, tough as shoe leather and unseasoned. The shrimp was overcooked and also unseasoned. The fries had obviously been setting out a while. For the cost it wasn't worth it. Go across the road and eat twice for what you pay here.

My family eat at Captain's Galley often and love their food. Sunday we went there to eat lunch and I noticed that there were not as many people as usual. Most of the time we have to wait in line to get a table. When we went in there were several empty tables. When I opened the menu I understood why fewer people were there. The prices had gone up 20%. Too much for a Sunday lunch. We decided as we left that although we love the food, it is simply priced too high. We will not be going back.

I had eaten at the Captains Galley several times before and was quite satisfied but last night my husband and I ordered the broiled seafood platter instead of the fried platter. I expected to receive the same amount of-food on the broiled platter as I had received on the fried platter . This was not to be, we receive one small piece of fish, six shrimp, one deviled crab,an six tiny oysters plus sides. I really don't think this is worth eighteen dollars. If we ever return I will know better than to order the tiny broiled seafood platter and will make sure and tell all my friends.

Just want to give roses where and when roses are due. My husband and I just returned from lunch at the Captain's Galley. We had friends that, for a long time, have told us how good the salt and pepper catfish is here and today they took us out to try it for ourselves. I will also say that my neighbor is quite the connoisseur of good food. He says you really must give a dining place at least three chances (learned this from his father) before you pass judgment. He is a man that really loves to eat and wants a good meal for what he pays. When we got to the restaurant, it was not busy. We also went on a Tuesday but it was before late afternoon--I guess closer to 3:00. We were greeted and seated immediately. They first put us at a booth but graciously allowed us to choose a table for more armroom. They took our drink orders and returned quickly and left a bowl of hush puppies that were delicious. We ordered blooming onion to nibble before the meal and it was great. The waitress was wonderful and so obliging. The restaurant had a delightful ambiance. We sat and talked and nibbled on the onion. Our food came out without much delay. Move over blooming onion. Our friends were both waiting to get our opinion--we just wanted to enjoy the bites of fish, baked potato and cole slaw. I had told my neighbor I would "beat him up" if it wasn't as good as he said. He did not lie--it was delicious. The meal had five very large catfish fillets that were cooked to "almost" heavenly perfection. We really have never tasted better. My husband's mother could not have done a better job. We each came home with leftovers. My husband and I agree with our friends. No complaints - just thanks. Sincerely and hope to eat there again soon. Linda and Don

Had heard it was a great place to eat Seafood. Oh well! We sat at our table 20+ minutes before we asked someone going by if we could order food and something to drink. Which started my evening off all wrong. I ordered my food and opted to pay $3.99
extra to add scallops, WOW! I got 2 of them on my plate for only $4!!! I think the bill was calculated wrong but no one cared. So, I paid, we left and we will not be back. And I have told several of my Newport friends about our experience.

The food really was great! I had never been to this restaurant and have lived 30 miles away for over 10 years. I am super critical of seafood in the area because seafood here means - catfish. YUK! They had HADDOCK as a special and it was awesome! The clam strips were also some of the best I have had in a long time if not the best ever. I really am sorry I hadn't tried them before. My wife had the porterhouse steak and it was a little small but was good. It is located right off the Interstate (I-40) at exit 417, so it is easy to get too. I rated all 10's as they really did deserve them.
