Now in May 2020 under new but experienced management, the Harrow Road Cafe has been owned by Historic Rugby Inc. since 1985. American & a few British menu items, in keeping with Rugby, Tennessee's 1880 founding as a British colony on the Cumberland Plateau.

Wanted to like this place, but was sadly disappointed. Ordered breakfast. Coffee was good. Two eggs were size of pigeon eggs, I'd say. Biscuit so-so. Brown gravy was best I've hand anywhere. My wife's western omelet was weird. We didn't know ham could be cut so small. Then there is the WATER, pure yuch. Unfiltered tap wster I'd say. Unless the filter was leftover from years gone by. Can't figure out how coffee was good and table wTer si bad. I'm a local so i have talked to others. Basically same experince.

I was excited to see the Diner under new management. But I'm dissapointed it's still southern basic options. The Sheppard's Pie is not British it's southern. It suppose to be in a pie shell like a pot pie. Hamburger layered then Corn then top Mashed potatoes. That's it. No carrots sheese. Then the lack of specials. They should have a knock out special like casseroles and British European Crusine. The menu shows lack of a Chef just a fry cook. I will fine there but the lack of a specialty Menu lacks in appeal.
Breaded Pork Tenderloin sandwich home made would be nice. Crabroll and Lobster Rolls homemade not frozen. Pasta is totally lacking. I don't think they are going to make it but they should have hired a Certificate Chef at least.
Many property owners in Rugby would enjoy 5 star dishes as specials. Not a hamburger joint.
No pizza!!! Who thought up the menu? No children's menu. No vegan dishes.
Oh well. Not much to expect but everyday food that everyone else has what's special? Nothing! Bland tasting as well.
Pity. I expected more!
2 stars out of 5.

The Harrow Road Cafe opened a few weeks ago for 2020 with a new & experienced management, and a vastly different menu. It's great for take-out too. Really popular are Ella's pies, by the slice or whole thing. She struggles sometimes to keep them coming, but it's worth a bit of a wait. Picnic tables outside allow for distanced eating, too! Something for everyone.

Bland food and very slow service. As much as an hour for food to be cooked. High prices and limited menu. Best to avoid.

Worse place to eat in the area. Long waits and terrible music. Argument between staff. High prices. Very greasy food. No choices for kids. Terrible hours. Almost as bad as Historic Rugby where the cafe is located.
