The food is hit and miss. The cafe is clean and looks new. The servers were distracted with chit chat among themselves. It was a Sunday afternoon and they were not busy. Once we got her attention, she was polite and took the order accurately.
The onion rings were the best. The chicken fried steaks had gristle in them and had not been cut or tenderized properly. It only takes a few extra minutes to serve a better CFS. Mystifying.
The grilled squash appear to have been reheated to the point of being limp. It was served in a bowl of a green oily liquid. What was that stuff?
The huge failure was the coconut cream pie. The crust was dark brown with the appearance of being burned. It tasted rancid. The pie filling seemed like it was made with corn syrup"¦tastes more sweet than coconut flavor. The pie was topped with what seemed to be marshmallow fluff rather than meringue made from egg whites. It should not have been served. Neither of us could eat even half a slice of pie. They'd be better off serving a pre-made pie from HEB. I make a better coconut pie. I'll share the recipe, but it has to be made with more care that what I was served.
Bailey's seems like a place that started out great, but then the owners lost interest and let amateurs run it. Definitely not worth a second visit or a first visit.
