This review has been a long time coming. I have lived in Malton since I was a kid & still do. Atlantic Bakery has always been a huge thing for all of us here in this community. All the previous owners were amazing. Anna & Emily and their husbands are so sweet. My own daughter actually started working there a few years ago with Anna & Emily and she loved working there every minute and felt like family. The cakes, pastries, bread & everything else were always so good. Fast forward to early 2022 when unfortunately the bakery was sold to new owners. I thought to myself with my daughter still working there i would give the new owners a chance & continue to be a loyal customer. I went over and above to make them feel welcome to our community & had high hopes that the legacy of Atlantic Bakery would continue to go strong. That was the furthest thing from the truth. From day one the new owners were very cold and not welcoming to the point my daughter no longer enjoyed working there and would come home upset all the time. When i would walk in i started feeling so uncomfortable and not welcome but thought i would still give them a chance. As time went on we only noticed the service continued to get worse and the fresh made patries and cakes got worse and worse as well. It became a tradition to get my birthday cakes from there every year for the longest time and they were always amazing from the previous owners. This year was my first time having my birthday cake under the new owners and you would think that maybe with my daughter being one of the longest part time employees there alittle bit more care would be put into it. Well i was wrong, it was the worst birthday cake ever, it was stale and the cream went sour. I have never done this before but thought i would bring it to her attention and say how disappointed for many reason we were with the quality of the cake. The owner got so offended and said fine i will give you your money back (which was well deserved to get back) but she only did it so her other customers wouldnt hear me tell her bad feedback. A few weeks ago we went in to buy a bunch of pastries and dealt with the son, i requested something and he went to ask if it can be done as soon as she saw me she started talking in their language which was very clear they were talking bad about me. I tried to approach the owner to politely mention something to her and she started to attack me saying that if i buy these pastries i cant return them, ummm excuse me but that would not be my intention if there is nothing wrong with them, the only reason why i had an issue with the cake was cuz it was clearly not fresh and she knew very well it wasnt. So lets just say things escalated once i saw the attitude she had with me even tho i was there to spend a good 70 dollars on pastries. They were rude as they always have been to me since they took over. In the end they said they didnt have to serve me and that was fine cuz it is more their loss than it is mine. It is just so sad to see one of the last original businesses in Malton being taken over like that. Atlantic Bakery meant so much to me and Malton. I can not believe that a part of our history has been destroyed in such a short period. I am still so grateful for all the memories and good things that came out of that bakery over the years but unfortunately it will not be a part of anything for me anymore. I strongly suggest if you know what good pastries, cake and service are take the time to travel to a knew bakery that will appreciate your business.
