Called a few weeks before Christmas and asked if they sell local, free-range turkeys. The woman who answered said yes, all their turkeys are free range and local. The price she quoted wasn't cheap at $7.99 a pound, but I was willing to pay that for an ethically raised, local turkey. Today I picked up and paid for my 11 pound turkey. I didn't see the label. When I got home I noticed the label was from some company called Granny's Farms. I looked online and saw that this was not a locally raised or free-range turkey but from a big poultry company with multiple brands that also owns Butterball. I paid $87 for a turkey I could have gotten at Safeway for half that price! I called Tango Meats and asked the man I got the turkey from why they were telling people their turkeys are local and free-range when the one he sold me was no better than cheap Butterball turkey. He said some of their turkeys are free-range from JD Farms but the supplier had also sent them some of these other ones from Granny's. I asked why he didn't tell me that before I gave him my $87? He said he didn't think it mattered. WTF? You are charging me $7.99 a pound for a Safeway turkey and you didn't think you should mention that? I told him I wanted to return the turkey for a refund and he refused. He said I could instead exchange my Granny's turkey for a JD Farms turkey that was twice as big, ie. give them another $80! I don't care how bad your supply issues are, you do not tell customers they are selling a particular specialty product and then sell them something inferior for the same price! How is anyone supposed to ever trust anything they say about their meats? One thing I do know, I will never, ever buy anything from Tango Meats again.
