Good food!

I visited Brickster’s 600 almost 2 weeks ago thinking I was going to Croaker's Spot just to be told they were permanently closed in Norfolk. I looked at the menu and decided to give them a try. That was the best decision ever. The energy and ambiance in the restaurant is totally different. I did notice that some of the staff was the same. I sat at the bar and the young lady was kind of busy but she made it a fact to greet me as I was seated. She brought me a glass of water and informed me that Happy Hour was still going on until 8pm and told me the drinks that were on happy hour and about the food specials they had going on. Detra was making drinks, so I asked what she was making and she told me what was in the different glasses. There was a syndicate, side alley, Gypsy Juice and an old fashioned. I looked over the libations menu and decided I wanted to try the Brick. The drink was great. Didn't realize that you could combine vodka, tequila and cognac and get drink that was balanced. For my meal, I went with one of the specials the salmon stuffed with crab cake, mac and cheese, fried Brussel sprouts and I started with the fried okra. Detra informed me that there may be a wait on the food because my food was put in after the big party on the other room. My appetizer came out pretty quickly and it was amazing. Lightly breaded and crispy with a nice kick from the jalapeños. I ordered another drink, this time I tried the Deadass. Detra informed me that this drink your only allowed 2. After tasting it, I completely understand why you can have only 2, it definitely sneaks up on you. My food came about 20 minutes later and let's just say words can't really explain how delicious this food was. My salmon was cooked perfectly with the crab cake. The seasonings was tasted all the way through the salmon. That Mac and cheese was soooo cheesy and tasted so good. The Brussel sprouts had just the right amount of spiciness and she gave me some 600 sauce to dip it in. I drank a glass of Charles Woodson's Intercept Cabernet to go with my meal. I took a piece of yellow cake with chocolate icing with me home. My overall experience was outstanding, from walking in the door to leaving out the door. There's a whole Harlem Renaissance feel in the restaurant, from the decor to the names of the libations and music. The staff is well informed on the menu and the history of the restaurant. I will definitely be back.
