Yukon Steak Company, Fort Eustis/Langley Airforce Base Safety Office Holiday Luncheon, Thursday, December 17, 2009:
Worst dining experience EVER! On 14 December made arrangements with Vicki for approximately 20-25 people for lunch beginning at 1200 and reconfirmed on Monday, 14 December. She told me that wouldn’t be a problem and that we’d be set up on the left and away from other dinners. She also stated that the restaurant doesn’t get a very large crowd during lunch time.
Arrived at 1145, was seated by Vicki in a quick and courteous manner. I asked Vicki who would be our waitresses/waiters and she informed me it would only be herself. I stated that this was a very large crowd for one person to handle and she assured me it wouldn’t be a problem. Beginning at 1230 she began to take our food orders and was completed by 1250. Food began to arrive around 1:30 with the last individuals being served at 2:00 pm. The hot food was cold (several individuals had frozen tomatoes on their sandwiches) and many complained how bad the food was. Some individuals had to leave without eating and others had to take their food with them because they only had 1-1.5 hours for lunch (as is the case with most working individuals).
After I received my meal at 2:00 I asked Vicki to speak to the manager and her comment was, “she already knows how upset everyone is and I’ll send her right over”. This made matters worse – the manager was already aware of the problems and didn’t step in the rectify them? When the manager approached, she didn’t introduce herself so I had to ask if she was the manager. I told her of the arrangements made in advance, conversations made with Vicki prior to the luncheon and also during the luncheon and theses were the comments she made: “I’m sorry, we were helping Vicki out by waiting on the lunch guests on the other side of the restaurant (3 waiters helping 12 people) and we were helping in the kitchen to get the food ready for her to bring to us. I would be happy to take something off of your bill. I do apologize and maybe on your next visit you could pre-order your meals in advance”. I told her that option was never suggested to us and that I could assure her that there would NEVER be another dining experience at Yukon and I also asked if she planned on taking something off of everyone’s bill. She had no comment to that.
I felt completely responsible for the lousy experience, because I chose the restaurant and made all the arrangements. We were going to go to another local restaurant, The County Grill, but I wanted to give another restaurant a chance and pick a location that was convenient for everyone – BIG MISTAKE.
