Ichiban means "Number One", and in this case it certainly is! This is the by far THE best restaurant in Summersville, West Virginia, and only a stone's throw away from Walmart so is dead easy to find.
The service is exemplary. The staff are always polite and efficient. On to the food. Sushi and Sashimi are made to order from fresh ingredients by the Sushi chef, right in view, as are the Hibachi dishes (Japanese stir-fry fish, meat veg etc) dishes by the Hibachi chef.
Have recently gotten switched on to the Gyoza (1/2 dozen delicious Japanese dumplings, lightly fried, with separate sauce) for an impressive $3.95. I COULD eat these all night if my waistline allowed it!
The cooked roll specials are my personal fave right now and are very well priced at around $8 - $14. This and my Gyoza are ALL I need for a very ample meal! Love those Seared Tuna Dishes, and the use of smoked eel.. cuisine with these ingredients would cost an arm and a leg in California's Bay area but are here for extremely reasonable money in West Virginia's Lakes and Mountains region.
Coffee and other non-alcoholic beverages are served swiftly with refills. They offer a selection of wines, including Plum Wine, Saki, and quality domestic wine (around $15 a bottle), together with various domestic and imported beers.
If you are new to Japanese food but love stir-fries, then consider the Hibachi dinners. Eg, Steak and Scallop with vegetables, Chicken with Vegetables, Shrimp with Vegetables.. seared and served in a delicious sauce with their own fried rice. These dinners include a salad which has a wonderful home-made sesame/ginger ginger dressing, AND Miso Soup (miso, seaweed, stock..) that arrives at the same time. Good choice of vegetarian dishes. Most of the salads and some of the cooked rolls, together with the Hibachi and Soba (buckwheat) Noodle dishes are a perfect choice for vegans too!
Typical Hibachi full dinner prices run around $12.95 to $16.95. Soba entrees dishes start at around $8.00
Tip - if the Hibachi with Filet Steak is a little out of your price range, go for a side of Filet Steak for around $5.95, and presented Hibachi-style.. it is quite out of this world :)
