Food is decent but their strategy for increasing their tips when paying cash is to make you wait endlessly for your change until you leave. I took this to be an oversight the first time. Upon further visits I realized that it wasn't. Today I had a $25 gift certificate to use on a $15 pick up to go order. The waiter says "Shall I use the remainder as a tip". A 60% tip on a to go order? With a roll of his eyes he agreed to put the remaining balance on the gift certificate. I usually tip pretty well on to go orders but I gave him nothing and I'm not going back.

This is more of a bar then a restaurant. We had to wait twice for a table and then the food we ordered was mostly fries with two strips of fish. We won't be back.

I'm so glad CP corrected the service issues... Now best food and service downtown Wilmington. Great place! We bring all visiting guests to this restaurant!!!! Homemade fries best around! French onion soup, yummy!! Sandwiches- just pick one- delish!!!!

Been eating there since it opened and love the food

My boyfriend and I went to Copper Penny Wednesday night. I had the spinach salad with blackened grilled tuna, and my boyfriend had and 109 chestnut chicken sandwich. We sat at the bar, they also had pub trivia and great pint specials. We both had a great time, the bartender took great care of us she told us her name was Megan, but everyone around her called her Bunny! Copper Penny is a must stop for anyone passing though. Great staff, nice atmosphere, and amazing food! Thanks Megan

Funny last comment. Sounds like that person is an ex employee or food rep. They "know" an awful lot about the the business. Anyway just wanted to say that I have been eating at this restaurant for years. I'm convinced that you can't find a better sandwich than their 109 chestnut chicken sandwich anywhere in Wilmington. Thanks Copper Penny I will be back soon.

I've eaten at CP since they've opened, but was away for a few months before eating there last night. Did the CP change management? I didn't recognize any of the waitresses and only 1 of the bartenders. Also, I knew that CP had changed food distributors - definitely don't like the "nacho cheese" they put on their "irish fries." The sauce on the wings isn't as good - in fact, it tasted as though they just poured KC Masterpiece on the wings, rather than the usual great garlic basted wings they used to have. Is the recession cramping CP's style? Their prices haven't lowered, but if felt that the quality of the food has.

I love this place! It has been my favorite since they opened 5 years ago. The hand cut and cooked to order fries are addicting, along with all of the other fresh made food. There is no other pub/bar that does such a good job! The staff is always warm and friendly. I feel so sorry for the few that commented on having "issues" w/ the C.P. No place or one is perfect and since I go all the time I know that thier experence was the rare NOT the norm. And speaking of "Norm" this place is the "Cheers" of Wilmington, Keep up the good work C.P.... Wilmington loves you!

This place is great. We go for lunch twice a week. They have awesome lunch specials for $7.50 and you get a lunch card where every ninth lunch is free. You cant beat it.

Our favorite!

I love this place! The food is great, the service is even better and the atmosphere is very much the pub style that I was looking for. I would say that its my favorite place to each lunch! Thanks CP for such a great establishment!

Bart... you make yourself sound like a pathetic excuse for a customer... get water next time... i'm sure its free refills... leave the staff alone.. i think they do a great job... its not easy waiting on people like you all the time...

Good place to eat needs more TV's

Tried to get an imperial pint. Last time I was there they served me a guiness in a 20 oz pint (as it should be). Manager refused to serve me the same SIZE drink. He would prefer to lose a repeat customer than sell me 4 more oz of liquid and keep my business. Foolish business decisions. Then he threatened to get the bartender who did serve me an imperial pint in trouble for "stealing" 4 oz of beer. What a pathetic attempt at managing and an even more pathetic attempt at customer service.

I went there last night and had a great time. They had pub trivia and great specials. The place was full because of a Carolina basketball game but we still had great service. I will definitely go back soon.

Service was horrendous. My wife and I eat out 5 or 6 nites a week and there wasn't any service there!!! Food was not the worst but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either. I had the cheese steak and it left a lot to be desired. The prices were ok and the atmosphere was so so. I doubt we will be back with so many good rest. in he area.

Went on a Saturday night for light meal. I had the sesame tuna that was excellent with wasabi mashed potatoes and my husband had the chicken special that was also delicious. We each had two drinks, no room for dessert.... oh yes... we each had salads that were large enough to be able to be shared... I had Greek and he had Ceasar.... both were excellent It was so good that we are going back tonite , Tuesday for dinner and to watch the Primary results... Don't hesitate to go if you are in Wilmington. It would be a shame to miss out on the friendly service and great food and drink.

I took my project team for lunch at this restaurant. The egg salad was fabulous. My team all enjoyed their food. The service was good, not excellent.

I would go back.

Waitress touched my food and ate a piece of my meal at the table! She was a terrible waitress that talked about her life to me. I don't care! The steak sandwich was full of grissle. No manager was available (so said the red headed pimple faced waitress with social problems).
I will go to McDonalds next time for Better Service and Value. Why would a steak sandwich be almost half grissle?
Nasty! Perhaps being drunk would help, seeing I saw a few really drunk people being served more liquor. If you drive look out for that area as the drunks are out driving home after being overserved there.

worst service i have ever received.

I recently moved to Wilmington area from Philly and i have to say that the philly steak is as close as it gets down here to the real thing The atmosphere is awesome on sundays for Bird's games and the wait staff is always coming around and asking if they can get anything Is buy far the best place to grab a beer, some eats, and the game.

I couldn't disagree more with the previous post. We had lunch here yesterday and the food was outstanding. I've been here three times and had great food and great service every time. The lunch special was fried shrimp and the shrimp were large jumbo shrimp fried to perfection, french fries were great and the asian coleslaw is always wonderful. For $7 I don't think there's a better lunch in town. The service was outstanding. We have been to several downtown restaurants recently where the food and service were lousy. Everyone in this place spoke to us and the waitress came by 4 times to check on us. We'll definitely be back!

Perhaps one of the most inconsistent restaurants in all of wilmington. Food is usually decent depending on who is cooking. The service for the large part is slow and they dont seem to care if your satisfied or not. I had to fight my way to the bar just to get a refill. After running several restaurants i can tell you from my experience that this is good place to have a cold beer and a bite to eat but thats where it stops. Need to work on service and presentation of staff

I am glad that I am not the only one who thinks their service sucks!!!!!!!!

I Love this Place!

I work downtown and LOVE the Copper Penny for lunch or dinner. The Philly Cheese Steak is the best in town, the salads are fresh and the beer selection is awesome. This is the best casual restuarant in downtown Wilmington by far. You can eat a great meal for less than $10 and have leftovers to take home! This is a must try for all!

Service is good, but always seems slow... If you only have 45 minutes for lunch, FORGET IT!

If you have an hour, go there everyday!

New England Clam Chowder is to die for. Big whole clams, skin on large chunks of red potato and celery you can see, not too pasty, not too spicy.... Just Right! I was early for the lunch rush, so my service was timely and friendly. Average prices, lots of TVs in a woody bar atmosphere, but no smoke. Liked it a lot!

I love going to Eat here. I go a lot because I go to school close by. The last time I went, I had the worse service I've ever experienced. I didn't get my cup filled when everyone else at the table did. The girl made everyone of us want to walk out and never come back. She was very rude and we have not eatin there since.

review_stars 02/26/2007 - Dugan
The philly cheese steak and onion rings are killer. However they have been having issues with service. I called up a to go order and got mocked by the jackass that answered the phone and had to hang up. I have also made to go orders where they leave out fries or onion rings or just give me the wrong thing all together. The service is piss poor and it's a shame because it is the best bar food in all of Wilmington.

By far the best bar food in Wilmington
