I am Jamaican born and raised, this is the closest you will get to authentic Jamaican food in the Chicagoland area. It is a take out restaurant so there are no frills, the food is fantastic and that is all that matters to me. I'm sick of jamaican restaurant in the area that are frauds. I drive 40 miles for this food (when i'm not cooking my own).

In all of my experiences with Ya Mon, I have found the staff (which are husband & wife owners) extremely courteous, professional and urgent. I order catering as well as individual meals frequently and my entire office LOVES the food. It is always fresh and tasty. I encourage the last reviewer to try it again. It's unfortunate what transpired however I can say with certainty that I have never had an adverse experience and I have been a customer of Ya Mon for several years.

A friend of mine had a taste for Jamaican cuisine so we decided to try Ya Mon. First Ė when we walked in, people looked disgusted.
I soon learned why when I looked behind the counter to see no less than nine orders stacked in Styrofoam containers on the counter behind the only cashier. She had absolutely no sense of urgency in dispensing the orders as she announced to an ordering patron that they were out of white meat. That dashed my wish for Brown Stew Chicken as well as a ďplan BĒ order of Jerk since I donít like dark meat.
I decided to get some beef or veggie patties and rice and peas. The woman informed me that she didnít have any patties and that they donít sell sides by themselves. My expression prompted her to ask the men in the kitchen if they would allow me to buy a large side order of rice & peas.
The man glared through the door at me for an instant and said something indistinguishable. She told me, ďNo, sorry.Ē I laughed in her face and left.
While I enjoy many Jamaican dishes, I decided to eat ďmainstreamĒ and order chicken, a STAPLE menu purchase, to see if I liked their food. But to refuse to sell me a side item, considering they didnít have TWO main menu items that Iíd wanted, was just unbelievable.
If a hamburger place ran out of burgers, would they refuse the chance to sell you some fries, SOMETHING? Thatís utterly ridiculous. Iíll NEVER patronize that place again
