Red Mei is a great Thai restaurant to order in or casually stop-by in Old Town, Alexandria. My husband and I often stop by on our strolls through town. The place is family owned and operated, the owner and the staff are very friendly. I've tried most things on the menu, but my favorite is the pad-thai. Everything has the right amount of enticing flavor and generous portion size for the reasonable amount you pay. Your food is prepared fresh, right in front of you so you know it is clean and you have a peace of mind, unlike other Asian restaurants. If you are looking for a casual evening with your friends or are looking for something fast and affordable I highly recommend Red Mei. <br />

To each his own, but I frown at people who say that this food is good asian food. Frandkly, this place tastes godaweful for asian food. These people remind myself of me...that is when I was 10 years old and thought that Pizza from papa johns was what real italian pizza should taste like.

I like my Chinese food light, not greasy. This is one of the few Chinese restaurants that I've been to where you can actually get your chicken NOT fried! I appreciate that. <br />

At any rate, one time, on a busy Fri night, it was a bit greasy--like a regular chinese restaurant. I was disappointed--but that was a one off. It's definitely my Chinese food of choice<br />

I'd like it if they offered special low cal/low fat options, or highlighted what is better for you (similar to what China Lights does in Dupont).

Delicious food, just the right portion at a stunningly affordable price (especially for being in the heart of Old Town). Highly recommend the curbside pickup service for convenience and quickness!

I love everything about Red Mei - the cozy yet elegant atmosphere, the friendly service, and fresh Thai food all at a very reasonable price. I agree with the others that the shrimp pad thai here is one of the best that I've tasted anywhere - it's not too sweet, still full of flavour, with jumbo sized shrimp. This is a little treasure in Old Town!!!

The ingredients are fresh.The vegatables are crunchy,never overcooked; the meat is tender,not gristly;and the food is as light and nongreasy as chinese take-out could ever possibly be. Superb..

My husband and I walked in this past saturday after shopping with our 17 month old son, all tired and hungry on a cold rainy day. First off, your place was very eye catching from the street and very relaxing on the inside (just what we needed). The food was right on target, pleasing on the eye as well as offering a clean delicious taste, just the right amount of spice (not americanized like most places and no oily heavy taste. I am desparate to find a location in DC or Silver Spring. Please open one soon. Starving for great asian food!!
