11/30/2014 - Local Resident
I've lived in Lancaster my entire life and have went to this restaurant MANY times. Over the past year or two though, the service and quality have declined drastically. My husband and I used to eat breakfast here a couple of Fridays a month . We noticed that sometimes the food was better than others, depending on the cook it seemed (and from what I was told locally by other residents). The cook that was doing outstanding is no longer there it seems, and neither are we. Over the course of two months, we noticed dirty plates, dirty silverware, and dirty glasses. The server, one of the twins, brought me a drink with a straw already placed inside of it that had some food stuck in it. I questioned if they were washing used straws out to reuse and was assured they were not. My husband's straw was greasy and obviously not new. We noticed that the plates weren't clean on one instance, and another time, obviously not rinsed well because my eggs tasted like dishwashing liquid. My last visit, which was when I got a mouthful of dishwashing liquid, I watched TWO roaches scurry across the baseboard. It used to be a good place to eat, now it's disgusting. We were willing to overlook the dust, grungy floors, tables, and atmosphere because it was cheap, the food was good, and the servers were nice. Not anymore. New management, help, and remodeling is DRASTICALLY needed. The place hasn't been changed in decades. Sure the locals that want to sit inside and drink bottomless cups of 50 cent coffee all day and gossip will disagree, but if you want a good meal in sanitary conditions, don't test your luck.

If you like COUNTRY you will love the Country Diner. Very quaint and the food is outstanding. Try their Stewed Tomatos and their homemade pies. Fantastic place to go and unwind and bask in a true Southern Atmosphere
