Being from Texas, I can safely assume what is and isn't good Mexican food. It's not easy to find it up here, but Laredo's is pretty good. First off, the salsa is incredible. It's fresh made, loaded with cilantro but not heavy on any one particular spice. The menu options are quite varied and there are a lot. The fajitas are quite good, come in a huge portion compared to local competition and actually sizzle (unlike some other places). The enchiladas are incredible as well, ranging from vegetarian, to seafood to beef and chicken, with multiple sauce options. There are several desserts, including an absolutely delicious cheesecake chimi. Service is hit or miss, but never bad. They keep your drinks filled and bring the food in a timely manner. Understanding your waiter shouldn't be a problem, I've never had to deal with communication issues before. All in all, good mexican food for being so far from home.

Eat at your own risk! Me and several of my friends were assaulted by a mexican gang as we left the restaurant. Females were shoved to the ground and males were assaulted with beer bottles and workout weights. I myself took 8 stitches.

I agree with the reviewer who said they are trying to cut costs. Laredo's has been my favorite mexican restaurant for a few years now and was always a good standby, however the last 3 times I've visited (twice to whitney way, once to lien rd) the food just isn't the same. First I noticed it in the ground beef - with the whitney way location, the beef had barely any flavor and at the lien rd location had an entirely different flavor from usual. Also, the salsa seemed watered down and the refried beans were different too.
So disappointing, especially since I don't know what my second choice would even be for mexican food here. Rating & Review:
Good Food. Fast Service. Excellent Value.

Ever since Laredo's first came to Madison it has been one of my favorite Mexican places. Not only because of the good food but the good prices and service. I hate to say Laredo's has fallen victim to trying to cut back food quality and service to save a buck. But, at the same time, raising their prices. It started about a year ago when they started adding chunks of potatoes to their meat to try and stretch it to go further. Now, they have slipped some other unknown filler into the meat along with the potatoes to stretch it further. The nacho cheese that they used to serve on the burritos had a wonderful taste in the beginning but now they have replaced it with something that represents artificial cheese. We did receive our meal within probably one minute after putting our order in but we were NEVER offered refills on our drinks and I'm sad to say the Laredo's I grew to love no longer exists and I honestly don't think I can ever go back. Good luck if you go there.
