I get there weekly, it's excellent! Love the salsa and the food is very good. Taken lots of people there over time for business meetings and only had one in several years not very pleased. Located on Park Street in central Madison it is easy access from downtown and the University. See a real cross section of people in there and lots of returning customers.

La Hacienda is disappointing.
I have been there 3 times (because of their "chunky salsa" or pico de gallo) which is very good.
I have had their chicken mole--very mediocre. I make a much better mole. Tried their chili reyenos--awful! Very greasy and too bready. The chili could have been left out and I wouldn't have noticed. Also tried the beef quesadilla which was also quite mediocre. It was greasy.
I make better mexican food than La Hacienda.
You still can't beat Laredo's and La Taqueira.

It could be the color of my skin- but I thought the service was incredible! We got seated right away, the food was fresh, and our waters filled as we drank! The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and made great recommendations! Rule of thumb- if you go to a Mexican restaurant and see Mexicans eating there- you know you're good to go! And always order your meat al pastor!

Absolutely terrible -- I hadn't been to La Hacienda in a few years and now I remember why. The food was AWFUL. They called the little blackened bits in my burrito "steak," but they could have been chunks of charcoal as far as taste was concerned. The burrito was dry, the "cheese" was generic Kraft-like "cheese product," the salsa was little more than chopped up tomatoes in water, the service was painfully slow, the ambiance was very run-down and kind of dirty... McDonald's is a step-up from this place!

The food is incredible. The most authentic in Madison, with multiple regions of Mexico well represented. The service is poor, you may have to wait a long time and have difficulty finding your server after ordering and again after your food is served. I recommend bistec ranchero, steak a la mexicana, lomo de puerco en salsa verde, and if you like it really really hot lomo de res en chile de arbol.

The best Mexican food for a poor college student with great pico de gallo
