Great food and people. Wish it didn't close down.

On Wednesday night, Oct. 4th we brought friends and relatives from Texas to your diner. As we had always been pleased with your meals previously we had no idea what we were in for. We started placing our orders and the waitress left to go do something else. She eventually returned and we placed the rest of our orders. The orders started trickling in, one at a time. Once the orders had been delivered we were one meal short. Of course it was one of the Texas relatives. We asked what the issue was and we were told that the chicken parm was "in the oven". Half an hour later it still had not been delivered so we asked to see the manager. We were told that there was no manager or owner on site and no one even apologized for the oversite. Once we were all done eating and we were ready to leave the chicken parm showed up. No apology or reason about what happened. We used to go to your eatsblishnent quite frequently but I doubt that we will come in again. Seems someone could have offered a salad while she was waiting or anything similar to that.

My friends and I just got back from having lunch at this quaint little restaurant; so adorable on the inside; decorated in such a way that you feel like you are eating in your own dining room! The food was absolutely incredibly delicious. The portions were more than you could/should eat in one setting. I would highly recommend this restuarant to anyone! We will be going back! In fact, one couple that went with us; frequents this restaurant every Wednesday!
You need to check it out!

Excellent meal, had the baked Italian Haddock, really good ingredients, large portions, real mashed potatoes and of course dessert…homemade coconut cream pie that rivals the Agawam Diner on Rt. 1 in Rowley Mass :) Highly recommend…worth the drive!!!!

Amazing is the word to describe both the food and the experience! Such a friendly staff, deserts to preview as we enter to be seated and the menu is always added onto with the days specials. The name says "Diner" and that tells us only how the kitchen functions, the Olde Mill is a first class family restaurant. I take all my meals out there for my one week in the China Lakes area. So looking forward to my week in July!

Similar to another experience, I have to say the atmosphere left me a little hesitant to return, albeit the wonderful food has me saying it's a great place to stop in between Augusta and Belfast. The cook was a little too loud in vocalizing his displeasure at my requests, and flirting with my waitress, but the sandwhich was as asked, and delightful, the bread was not soggy, or stale. The diner itself is set up like a classic farmhouse, and the lack of technology makes a more relaxed setting, though the cash/check only policy can be inconvenient if youre a traveling tourist and don't know about it.

This is the best place with the best HOMEADE food in Maine. Hands down my favorite place to go

review_stars 10/17/2013 - Mr. Red
The Olde Mill Diner is a pleasant, welcoming little place situated in an older white and red farmhouse, that leaves one with reveries of summer's spent at their grandparents, the front adorned with a wild spent garden. As you enter that sense of warmth is only accented by the overwhelming aromas of freshly baked food, warm bread, and the tantalizing image of fresh pies left on a shelf conveniently left right by the entrance, almost guaranteeing you'll get desert. The owner obviously takes pride in finding warm, welcoming, and friendly wait staff who take pride in their job, and add to the comfortable down-home atmosphere. I have been going to the Olde Mill since it opened, and for years it was the weekly gathering point for my friends and I, and oft recommended to visiting family and friends, however, I won't be returning for at least the near future, as regretfully their cook is apt to disrupt that atmosphere, whether it is raising his voice to the owner that the whole dining area can hear, or making a waitress cry or treating them and/or customers poorly with bias-it is disruptive to what is obviously meant to be a family friendly, quiet atmosphere, and whether I am sitting alone working on a drawing, reading a book, or trying to relax with a friend, this is not something I wish to worry about. I do still however, recommend it the weary family looking for a taste of Maine after a long road trip, passing through, or on the occasional visit, the wait staff and owner will treat you like family, the locals will offer you a smile, and the food will leave you warm. Plus, they make the BEST pancakes anywhere, often cooked by the owner herself (possibly one of the best breakfast/pastry cooks in the area!).

Recently moved here and this is our restaurant of choice! Have eaten there about 8 times this year and brought friends as well and the food is great, large portions, reasonably priced, cannot get better homemade food out anywhere. Always had friendly, courteous service. Yes, the homemade deserts are expensive, but considering the huge servings of cake/pie, nothing store bought type of junk, they are well worth it! Our favorite place in Maine!

My favorite place to eat out. I have never had a bad meal there. In fact, I am waiting for someone to pick up turkey dinners for a meal at home. They do their best to please and the baker is a wonderful, generous woman who works very hard and is a fabulous cook.

Ate at the olde mill diner.. loved every minute of it.. the food was amazing and the prices were right. Had a productive prompt waitress that was pleasent and delightful, cant really remember her name but im thinking it was lyndsay?1? would recommend this place to anyone and was handicap accessible for my mother.

We were ushered to our table by the hostess (owner?) and as we sat at the table for 20 minutes one waitress passed by us about 5 times and a second waitress passed us twice and never asked us about beverages. There was a couple that was ushered to a table near us and the waitress asked for their drinks immediately. As we were walking out due to the lack of service, we noticed the large party that was waiting to be placed when we came in was sitting at a table with drinks. We have been told that it is a good place to eat but we will never find out. We won’t be back!

Never had anything here that I didn't like. The portions are awesome, prices are great, the quality is incredible. Everything is made from scratch, including the breads, rolls and desserts. The rolls are the size of soft balls and OH SO GOOD! It is true that they don't have them all the time and sometimes the rolls are only available for certain meals, BUT, they are worth it!

review_stars 11/29/2012 - Scotland
This is a great place for good home-cooked meals. the atmosphere is very nice and the place is clean. the prices are reasonable and the food is great. I've eaten here 6+ times and its always a pleasant experience. Ide like to see a CC machine and open wi-fi, but that's not a criticism. Keep up the good work.

To Mayme~rolls and bread are never free...they are figured into the cost of the meal in most cases. One of the main reasons so many restaurants do not serve rolls and or bread unless you ask for them. Then they are all commerically made, not homemade.

Drove past Olde Mill Diner on Rt 3 and turned around and went back..and so glad I did. Baked macaroni and cheese with a side of grilled kielbasa. I seriously have not had anything that good since childhood.. a huge piece of raspberry pie and only $3.99, a nice cup of green mountain coffee. I will definitely be going back.

review_stars 11/10/2012 - Lydia Martin
Food may be good, but who wants to support a greedy business woman. Prices on meals are fair, but Desserts are out of control..It should be considered wallet rape! Every dessert item is at LEAST $5 and the sizes are nothing special. They only do rolls on the weekends that only certain meals come with, you have to pay $1.50 to get one otherwise! I have never been to a restaraunt where you have to pay for rolls! Everywhere else, you get rolls/or bread as soon as you sit, and for FREE. Seems to me the owner is extremely greedy and trying to make a dime wherever possible~

review_stars 10/24/2012 - Mayme
If you are hungry and want a great meal like mom cooked...this is the place for you! Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy sent me to heaven. The blueberry pie was to die for and pot roast...OMG...so good. Ask for a box before you even start eating as you can't eat it all. The rolls are to die for also.

review_stars 10/15/2012 - Eaglekeeper
In the middle of nowhere, yet the parking lot is often full! Excellent homemade food and LOTS of it! Owners are passionate about their work, and the hospitality and service is the finest! It doesn't matter what you order, you'll leave with a full belly and a satisfying experience!

My family loved our meal here two years ago, when we were visiting Maine from NYC. We're going to Maine again this summer and we have been dreaming about the delicious chowder and strawberry rhubarb pie! Can't wait!!!!!

review_stars 05/02/2012 - Goose
My wife and I stopped in on a Friday night to have Dinner, the place was packed and people were waiting in line to come in, we had excellent service even though the place was packed, our waitress kept our glasses full without even asking her, we started with a cup of fish chowder which was amazing, every bite had fish potatos etc. in it, then the waitress brought us these amazing yeast rolls which were the best we've ever had, they were huge, moist and hot. My wife tried the haddock special which had a ritz cracker topping with a creamy sauce that was excellent. I had the roast pork loin dinner which was delicious, tender and mouth watering, the mashed potatos were home made not boxed potataos and we both raved about the squash, everything was so incredibly delicious, the menu has so much variety, we both wanted to go back the next night to try the deep fried chicken fingers.....Again our service was excellent and the chicken fingers were home made the big fat ones, juicy and so many of them our plates were rounded up and the french fries, potatos and squash were exactly the same as the night before, delicious and HOME MADE...and the yest rolls just came out of the oven, moist hot and delicious, we wanted to try their pies but both nights we were too stuffed to do so, we're going back this week maybe we'll split a pie or even better maybe we'll split 2 of them..

review_stars 04/26/2012 - Goose
My Husband and I heard about the Diner from a friend, we went and tried it out on Sunday for breakfast and we were quite impressed, the food was absolutely delicious, the menu had so much variety to choose from and the waitresses were very friendly and never let us run out of coffee, we definitely will be back and have already been spreading the word to family and friends about the Diner..

High carb comfort food!

review_stars 09/27/2011 - _TheBagLady
Home-made food never tasted so good! Corn bread is to die for and serving sizes go for two meals! Waitresses do well, could use a bit more training so to speak but are friendly and serve the food hot. The desserts are decadent and their Coddle soup is delicious. Quiet country environment.

What a wonderful restaurant in a little town in Maine. If you should be going down through Searsmont, Maine anytime look for this place and you will not be sorry. The food is great, service is great and prices are great for the quantity of food that you get. I have been to some high end restaurants that don't have meals as good as this place. TRY IT YOU WILL LIKE IT AND RETURN I AM SURE.

review_stars 05/18/2011 - Bev
My favorite place to eat. Everything I have tried is wonderful, fresh, cooked with care. I look forward to each trip. The owners care about their business and it shows.

Have driven by the Olde Mill for the last few years marveling at the number of cars. Finally stopped in this March and now I know why! Very homey, interesting dishes, and great tasting food. I had the fried smelts, more than I could eat. And the creme horns are just as good as the old Larry's in Ellsworth which is my gold standard! I am uploading the menu from the day we were there but it changes all the time.

review_stars 04/06/2011 - Linda
My husband and I stopeed in on the way home from a long road trip...we were famished, so everything on the extensive menu sounded fantastic - ended up choosing the meatloaf special (best meatloaf I've ever had!) and the mac & cheese dinner...of course we both tried some of each....and everything was superb! I wish we lived closer so we could go back there regulary and work our way through the menu. Oh can't forget the amazing whoopie pie cake....well worth the stop...!

review_stars 03/12/2011 - Brian Rogers
Great little restaurant, stopped by on a Friday 20 minutes before closing, and had a great meal. There was no feeling of being rushed, the service was excellent and the food delicious. I will definitely stop there again

review_stars 01/14/2011 - Bob Asselin
I've been there twice while on business in the area and can't wait to go back next week. I've had 2 heavenly meals on a huge "specials" page. Can't wait to say "I've tried them all"!

review_stars 11/07/2010 - Bev
This is my favorite local restaurant. The food is wholesome, homemade, plentiful, reasonable. The owners really care about their business.
The yeast rolls come right out of the oven and the desserts and sticky buns are like my Gram used to make. I cannot say enough good about this restaurant. I know nothing lasts forever but I wish this place would.

review_stars 08/05/2010 - Frank
Stopped in with the family on the way home from Bar Harbor. There where 4 of us and we are glad we did food and service where great. Blueberry pancakes that covered the plate. So glad to report we had the most wonderful food and service at Olde Mill. It's so nice to be able to go someplace to eat when you are a group larger than 4 and be comfortable. They we so accomadating, a memorable dining experience (our 35th anniversary)! Thanks Olde Mill diner. We'll be back!

review_stars 07/18/2010 - Lynn
We are local and I have to say we had an awesome impression of this restaurant until today. We actually would recommend and bring company when they were in town. Today's experience changed all of that! We had a party of 9, had been there for about an hour, though waited about 4o minutes to get our food, they were busy, we were enjoying our company. We were mostly done, 2 of our party ordered dessert and they had just finished taking their last bites and another waitress, comes up and asked us to leave if we are done they had another large party coming. Now I have NEVER been asked to leave...so we left and we will NEVER return. As we walked out there were 3 empty tables in the other room and only a party of 6 waiting. NOT busy as they said...so no worries...we will not busy your restaurant again and you can be sure we will not be recommending your business to any out of town guests either.

Food & Service was AMAZING! A very comfortable, down home atmosphere... food portions were HUGE and prices were LOW... quality of the food was fantastic -- SOOO DELICIOUS!!! Service wss VERY friendly and welcoming, prompt etc. Place was clean. And I can't stress enough how GREAT the food was, with GINORMOUS portions at a VERY reasonable price. Their fried seafood is yummy and their pies are PHENOMENOL! :)

You must try this place. It's home style cooking at it's finest. The rolls, I can't say enough about the rolls or the food in general. Thanks Olde mill diner! We are "regulars" now.

review_stars 10/26/2009 - Bonnie & Al
Amazing! Cozy warm atmosphere, friendly and helpful waitstaff and the food is DELICIOUS! Everything we ordered was cooked perfect and the food was HOT. And the yeast rolls...with butter melting on the top...out of this world. We travled an hour to go there and it was well worth every minute of it. Can't say enough good things. And to finish the meal was a huge slice of apple pie cooked perfectly. Flaky crust....yummy!!

review_stars 09/19/2009 - Gail
I love good food at a fair price. Have eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner here and have always left happy. Consider my husband and I to be picky about eating out and we both are impressed. Easy to stop by if you're traveling Rt 3 from August to Belfast.

review_stars 09/18/2009 - Megan

Wow! YUMMY and home cooked! I recommend starting with the scrumptious Onion Rings, Fried Mushrooms, or Hand Cut French Fries (cut to order), the pot roast you can cut with your fork, or the fresh fried haddock, or any one of the MANY daily specials, and ending with Deb's famous bread pudding, warmed, drizzled with maple syrup, whip cream, and nutmeg - HUGE portion, and to die for!!! Talk about some great homemade pies! I have NEVER been disappointed - LOVE THIS PLACE and THE FRIENDLY STAFF!!! I'm hooked! Way to go, Deb and Nate... Keep up the great work! Kudos to your great team!

I cannot begin to describe how great this place is. The food is awesome and really does taste like home cooking. I stumbled upon it on my way to Belfast and was so glad I stopped in.
