We had been to Chickens in the past, and it was great. I called to see if the new owners still had a buffet. I was told they did. It was $8.99 before 4 pm, and $10.99 after 4, but after 4 there were more "higher end" items put out. We got there at 4:05, and there was fried chicken, 3 bulb dried pork chops, instant mashed potatoes, and some bulb dried canned gravy. So evidently the only thing that changes at 4 is the price. We were there until 5:15 pm, and the same 3 pork chops were still there. The dessert consisted of canned chocolate pudding. That's it. We were told we could have vanilla if we wanted it. I asked for it but never got it. Another person asked if they had other desserts but was told no. A guy, I'm assuming was the owner, was was working on something in another room. He must be a diesel mechanic, because the work uniform he had on was grease soaked. I have nothing against a guy that works for a living, but if you own or manage a restaurant, in my humble opinion, he should be clean, and neat. We drove 35 miles to get there expecting more than we got. I'm very disappointed this visit. Needless to say we won't be going back any time soon.

This used to be a great place to eat, but under the new owners, I have never had a worse dining experience. The service was inexcusably awful. There is no longer a country-style buffet. Our food took over an hour to be served, and for a chili-cheeseburger w/ fries and a chicken breast with mashed potatoes, there's no good reason. Our server completely disregarded how long it was taking, and never refilled drinks. Worse yet, the unlucky customers who were there before us got their food after us, and the first table in still hadn't been served by the time we left.
The quality of the food was very poor. Instant mashed potatoes and cold gravy. The chili on the chili-cheeseburger was nearly inedible.
Because the service was so bad and no food was exiting the kitchen, the customers all seemed pretty hostile and the atmosphere was terrible. This is NOT the same restaurant it used to be. Beware!

Don't let the name fool you. This is no chicken restaurant. They have everything. The Friday seafood buffet is my fav. The portions are ridiculous. The prices are great. Awesome drink specials. Oh, and the chicken ain't bad neither.

Get there on Tuesdays for $3 pitcher beer and $6 16 inch pizza. Through the week is an $8 buffet or off the menu service. 40 minute drive from downtown St. Louis, this is a great ride through the country and a very nice interior to the restarant, but the outside will fool you. Call ahead to make certain they're open and remember, cash only, no credit cards.

My Friend and I discover this place while riding our Motorcycles through the country to Mount Vernon , IL. Thought the food and service was very good for the cost and really liked the change from hurry up and wait chain and fast Food Restaurants. Returned recently with seven of our fellow riders and everyone liked Chicken's as much as we did. Try it out I think you will enjoy a little trip back to simpler Eateries>
