This place is so good, from chocolate eclairs to chicken on a stick--everything fresh and delicious. Going to try the Shrimp Poboy next.

1) The philly:
I had written this place off last year because their so-called "philly steak sandwich" was added to the top of the list of the most disgusting foods I had ever tasted. This thing tasted like low-grade steak had been cut into strips and soaked in some kind of dirty salt brine for a week before being overcooked on a gritty flattop grill. After spitting out the first bite I called to find out if something had gone wrong. The staff told me that it was prepared as normal with the usual ingredients. I asked if other people had said anything about it (I could not imagine anyone taking a second bite). To my surprised, they replied that no one had said anything. I asked what we could do - that I could not eat the sandwich. They offered to re-make it. I declined. I told them that I had tried their food that day because of the great things other people had said about it, and asked if I could try something else off the menu since my first choice clearly wasn't going to work out. They told me to bring back the uneaten portion of the sandwich and pick something else from the menu, which I did. The grilled chicken salad that replaced my philly was almost good enough to finish eating. I threw away the menu and had not planned on eating there ever again, until today...

A coworker called me over to see another person's wrap because it looked so good. Indeed it looked delicious! My coworker and I found out that it had come from Janie's and both wanted to try it. So I decided to give them another try. And here we go...

2) The chicken wrap:
The Janie's Pastry Shop & Bakery menu on here is old and outdated, so I was surprised when I arrived at the restaurant and the prices given to me at the shop for the two orders were much higher than expected. That was fine, though - I understood that the menu and prices had changed. However, when I let the cashiers know about the outdated menu, they lost eye contact, mumbled something about not knowing anything about the "internet stuff," and proceeded to ring the order incorrectly a couple of times. After paying, I asked to speak with a manager to let them know about the outdated menu, assuming they would want to correct it and demonstrate a modicum of interest in providing a better experience for the next customer who searches for their menu online. But, alas, a modicum of interest in customer service is not to be found at Janie's Pastry Shop & Bakery. Not only did a manager not come out (I was told by the cashier that she reckoned I would have to speak with Ms. Janie, but then she didn't bother to go get Ms. Janie), no one has called since I took the final step of leaving my business card. I left it as a courtesy, so I could give them the information needed to replace the old, outdated menu with a new one.

Apart from the head-shaking experience with these people, the chicken wrap actually was absolutely delicious! So good, in fact, I will likely order it again.

I wish I could share a recent review, but I have been away from Brookhaven from over 40 years and wasn't sure the bakery was still in business. My daddy used to take me there as a treat when I was a little girl. They had the best strawberry filled pastry twists. I am so glad to see they are still in business after all these years. I wish I had a twist right now. Yummmm.....

Loved it! Very nostalgic and the best petit fours I've even had!

One of our Favorite Places in Brookhaven. They have some of the best pastries, pies, cookies, and cakes in the area. They also offer some of the best options for lunch in Brookhaven. If you have the chance try their chicken on a stick.

This is the BEST pastry shop I've ever been to -- North American or European. The variety of pastries is mind boggling. The Danish with cream cheese and pecans is decadent. When we're in Brookhaven, MS, we go there EVERY DAY. I like to buy pastries in advance for Sunday mornings, the one day they are closed. Lee is so friendly that she makes coming in here a fun experience.
