This is the first time I have ever written a negative review about anything! I am an understanding and forgiving person by nature. However, my experience with Alec’s by the sea in Ocean shores WA was so upsetting, I felt compelled to describe in detail what happened and warn others about this restaurant!
It was just after 5:00 PM and I had a long work day with hours of work yet to do. I had to skip lunch and was super hungry. I called Alec’s By the Sea for a takeout order of a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings. I rarely treat myself to takeout and expect good food and service when I do. I got home exhausted and darn hungry and scarfed down several onion rings. They tasted funny, but I ate them before I noticed they were gooey with uncooked breading in the middle. I was about to eat the cheeseburger but luckily checked it first and saw it had raw meat chunks in the middle. I’m not talking about a rare cooked pink. It was outright raw hamburger. I called Alec’s by the sea and told them their food was raw. The woman who answered said, “Do you want a new burger?” I said, “Yes I’m hungry!” I drove all the way back to the restaurant with my bundle of raw food to hand back to them. By this time, I was already starting to feel sick with a lingering taste of raw onion rings making me queasy.
You would think I checked the food before I left the restaurant again. I did not. Back home with a gurgling stomachic, I opened the bag to discover they forgot my onions for the cheeseburger and all my food was burnt. At this point, I was attempting not to get angry, thinking maybe it was a failing attempt by an inexperienced cook? However, looking at the cheeseburger and onion rings that were both overcooked to a blackened crispiness, it seemed like vindictive cooking. It was certainly a frustrating waste of my time and money.
I called the restaurant yet again to inform them that my onions were missing, and my food was burnt. I didn’t even get the chance to tell them the food was burnt. The woman who answered, cut me off when I stated they forgot the onions and said with a condescending tone, “What do you want me to do about it? Do you want your money back? A man’s voice in the background yelled, “NO!” I said, “Never mind I’ll speak to the manager tomorrow.” I felt more upset about their extreme unprofessionalism and outright rudeness than I did about the badly cooked food. I spent the rest of the night in bed unable to eat or finish my work because I got too sick from the raw onion rings.
I returned my uneaten food the next day and asked to speak with the manager. He apologized and reimbursed me for the price of the meal with an extra $6 to compensate for my “time and gas money.” I am not an ungrateful person. I know I am blessed to be able to afford food let alone takeout. However, it felt like a slap in the face that he thought tolerating the staff’s rudeness, my getting sick from their food, and the time I wasted was compensated with $6. I won’t be returning to Alec’s by the sea in Ocean shores WA.

Alec's is a nice little local restaurant. Nothing too fancy and it's not very big. I recently ate here for the first time. I ordered a burger and some chowder. Both were quite good. I'll be back.
