Awesome!!!

Good Food and nice atmosphere. Prices reasonable for tourist area but service could have been a little better. I base service on my tea glass and if it is busy or not. It was not that busy but my tea glass went empty and I was not offered a refill although the menu said "free refills" until I was about to leave. My tip would have been much better had my glass not gone dry! I would still go back though!

We went to Tartan all three mornings we were near Linville and the breakfast was excellent—perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon and hash browns, decent biscuits and great coffee. Cost about the same as eating at Waffle House, only the food was much better. But the real surprise was lunch: I ordered fried rainbow trout and received 3 large beautifully fried filets. In addition, I got 3 sides of my choice: turnip greens (cooked the Southern way with pork and plenty of pot liquor), pinto beans, and slaw. Additionally, we both received small dishes of chow-chow, the likes of which I haven't had since I was a kid--YUM! Our dinners consisted of a tremendous amount of food at a small diner price. Everything was homemade and fresh, and I noticed every time we went, the same local folks seemed to be there (in the same seats!) That should tell you something.

Stopped with a friend while driving Blue Ridge Parkway. Menu was unbelievable. Could hardly decide When I finally did pick one it was generous and delicious. I will make it a point to go again if ever in the area.

And absolute must for breakfast. Good pricing and when you are finished with their excellent meal there is a very interesting little shop to walk through before you head up Grandfater Mtn! Highly recommended!!!

We took a family of 11 just before closing time. The wait staff was patient and courteous. The food was delicious! All of our finicky eaters found something they liked from breakfast to lunch to their specials. Even though it is a little bit of a drive, we will be returning. It is worth the trip.
