Nine reviews . . . and seven of them anonymous. Makes me immediately suspicious: if dinner there was worth four or five stars, SOMEONE would have commented on the highlights, or recommended their favorite dishes. Sounds like an inside job to be. I checked this place, hoping to eat in Ripley, but that put me off.

We had a Sunday very early dinner last week. The steak salad was great. Not much steak but had grilled veg and their house made dill dressing was awesome.

My husband had ribs. They were so tender and bones were not on the plate less two small ones. Almost pressure cooked. Does not matter. House made redskin mash. If you are looking for ambiance this is not it but on the porch, sun out, view of the river this just fits in. I would go back. Our server was young but all smiles and accommodating. A little gem

Let me start by saying I've never written a negative restaurant review in my life. Actually, I'm one of the more easy-to-please customers out there. But this was for my wife and I one of the worst dining experiences ever.

Service: Important to note that we arrived ahead of dinner rush (5pm), and so the place was not in the least busy – only one or two tables seated. Yet nearly every request we made of our waitress had to be repeated at least once. She was very sweet and apologetic, but apparently distracted for some reason. We ordered appetizers and soup & salad to start. The plates & bowls for these were never cleared for the duration of the meal. As we were seated on the front porch (gorgeous view of the river, BTW), these were left as fly attractants.

Food: The bowl of pinto bean/sausage soup was tasty, if rather heavy on salt, but delivered barely lukewarm. The $11.95 "Garlic & Herb Chicken", described on the menu as, "Broiled chicken breast sprinkled with a blend of garlic and herbs", turned out to be not an actual chicken breast at all, but rather, what appeared to be a standard boneless piece of processed chicken such as you would find in your local grocery frozen food case. It was hopelessly grisly to start with, but had been badly abused in the kitchen, so that it arrived barely sliceable with a knife -- dry and tasteless. It looked as though something had been sprinkled on it, but whatever it was, its flavor did not resemble garlic or any herb whatsoever. I informed the waitress, but no offer was made to either replace it or deduct the pale, leathery product from the bill. Luckily, my wife had ordered the half-order of “country spare ribs”. While these were broiled, not smoked, they were at least tender and chewable, and more than she could eat, so we shared.

Finally, for dessert we ordered a slice of “chocolate pudding cake”. This again resembled nothing so much as week-old, stale, store-bought cake. My wife, perhaps a bit more discerning than I, took one bite and consigned the remainder to me. With a cup of coffee (nothing spectacular there, but freshly brewed) I was able to get it down. Interestingly, after I had half-eaten our chocolate cardboard dessert, we heard our waitress reciting the dessert choices to another table, with selections we had not been informed of. I might have preferred the peanut butter pie had she given us that option. Turns out they got the last piece.

I’d read about Cohearts when researching riverfront restaurants upriver of Cincinnati that we might consider for our anniversary dinner. It had received mostly positive mentions in an admittedly small pool of seven customer reviews. So we made the 60 mile drive and were able to get a quick tour of abolitionist John Rankin’s house beforehand. I would recommend checking this out. Very friendly, informative guides and unbelievable hilltop view of the Ohio River. Sadly, after reading the above, you may want to investigate a dinner alternative.
