As a fan of hole in the wall Mexican food, I had really high hopes for this place. It has all the appearances of a small, unassuming joint - down to the fact that they don't take credit cards. I do give them credit for stating that on door, and not after you sit down, order, eat and then get the bill.
So I excitedly left and went around the corner to get some cash, mouth watering, excited to see what savory joys were in store for my pallette.
What a let down!
The salsa is gross. Tastes like they opened a can of cheap tomato sauce, dumped it in with some water and a couple pepper seeds and called it done. Bland bland bland. Gross bland.
Also, we ordered queso. Our waitress was kind enough to come back and say, "are you sure this is what you want, it's not traditional queso, but it's a cheese sauce we use on our enchiladas" My boyfriend, who's a big fan of cheese in general said 'sure, let's try it.'
Again. Bland bland bland. Beyond bland. Tried to add salt and more salt and some of that nasty bland salsa to it - to no avail.
Finally, the food. I ordered the "chalupas" and my guy ordered the "quesedilla" While my portions were hefty, I'm a small girl and no quantity of food can make up for the fact that the quality is lacking. Which it was. It was run of the mill ground beef with, what tasted like, an out of the packet seasonings. Topped with bland beans, copious amounts of shredded lettuce and cheese, and it just didn't make the cut - at all.
The quesidillas....well, there was chicken in them, and then off to the side was a bunch of melted cheese that surely was grated cheese that came out of a plastic bag.
I'm not one to knock Mexican food, it really really takes a lot for me to not like it. It's my favorite kind of food. Nor am I one to write reviews - for the most part I've got better things to do with my time. But I was just so utterly let down by this place, I felt the need to give someone a heads up.
