Sadly the last “Greasy Tony’s” closed (2008) when the proprietor passed. It was a staple of U of A students and loved by many. He stayed working at his restaurant until his passing; as it was his passion in life. Remember him and his amazing food fondly.

The best food ever. The original on Easton Avenue in New Brunswick, NJ. Very sad Tony left NJ and even worse to hear of his passing. I remember his big smile late nights in the mid 1970s

Lived in Tucson for four years.
Was by far my favorite place to eat.
Sad to heat it's gone.
RIP Tony.

I learned about Tony's in the late 70's while serving in the Air Force. I have since moved to New Mexico, but would stop in any time I was in the area. The Trashcan with the works was the best. They weren't kidding about " No extra charge for the grease." I haven't been back to Tucson in a while,so I hope the rumors of it closing are not true.

this was the place to be at 3am when you went to the U of A. The cheese steaks were a staple of my diet for years. Not only do I still remember the taste to this day, but when I got married 14 years ago we honeymooned in Scottsdale and went to both the Greasy Tony's in Tempe and Tucson. My wife thought I was crazy, but the #38 no tomatoes was my favorite. Sorry to hear Tony has passed and that the Tempe store is gone.. rumor is that the Tucson place has closed too :(
RIP Tony
