Have eaten bushels of oysters over the years. They are the best in town. never had a bad one. This place is my favorite of all the great eating spots in town. You would never guess the quality of the food by looking at the place or the menu for that matter. You have to really watch the specials board - always something tempting. Chef is top notch. Some of the staff have been there as long as I can remember which is rare in any food service place and a tribute to the owners. Thanks Steve for running such a great establishment.

I have grown up eating seafood and I have to tell you that this was some of the best i have ever had!!!. The service was great. They made me feel like I was a local and ate there all the time. As I was eating my oysters I watched the other food coming out to other tables and every tray that came out i wished I had ordered that. Thank you very much for a great dining experience!!!!!!!

As the Owner,I assure you that in the ten plus years of being in buisness we have never recieved less than a 95 on our health score. We have never had a confirmed case of food poisoning. As far as the condition of the building it is 120 years old and has plenty of character. We are currently in the process of building a new Restaurant across the street, but asssure you it is extremely clean and last week receieved a 99 health score. We take these matters very seriously and cleanliness and safety are our #1 priority. To the person whom was"not sure" please contact us before you accuse us anymore. It was tough to pick grades for this because walking out of the restaurant my wife and I had huge smiles on our faces. The atmosphere was perfect for local seafood and the menu was great. Problem is, we think we got some mild food poisoning. It is difficult to exactly identify what gave it to us, but eating there was really the only thin we had outside of our normal stuff. We shared two dozen oysters on the half-shell, the Seafood Delight and Steamer Platter. After getting sick we started to question the "localness" and wondered if maybe they don't hold the highest cleanliness standards. Looking around in the restaurant, you can notice that they have room for improvement. No other postings say anything about getting sick, but we thought it was important enough to share.

Found this place at random. Was in Wilmington for my wifes job interview. It was exactly what I was looking for down there to eat seafood. Laid back, awesome steamed clams, and Guinness on tap. I would have stayed there all day but had to catch a plane. Man I hope the wife gets the job down there.

We enjoyed the Oysters Imperial and can't wait to go back for more. I also took my step kids during the summer and they ate mussels for the first time here and now eat them every time I make them.

The atmosphere is laid back and relaxed and perfect for enjoying an excellent meal

Everyone was very polite. I even got to see the cook. He did a great job and was polite, usually can not find that.

I have eaten (and drank) at this restraunt more times than I can count. The servers are all pleasant and friendly, the food is excellent, there are always great specials, and live music on the weekends. If you havent tried it, youre missing out on wilmingtons best kept secret. And to the patriot, Im sure it would have went smoother if you informed them of your lack of humor or fun. You should have tried the crab dip.

I was taken to this restaurant by a friend who works for the horse and carriage company and has lived in Wilmington his whole life when I first moved to Wilmington 10 months ago. He said it was by far the best oysters in town. I was not at all disappointed. The oysters Rockafeller were astounding- I couldn't get enough. The food was fabulous, the service was right on key and the atmosphere was perfect- casual and comfortable. I have since been back at least 3 times to try more menu items and have not yet been let down.
To the dumb dude who gave this restaurant a bad review, first of all, check the location (not the same restaurant, idiot). Secondly, get some class.
If you want down home charm added to chef-quality food and location, go to Dock Street Oyster Bar. Otherwise, if you want seafood, the closest Red Lobster is in Jacksonville. Enjoy.

Well, I recently had the [dis]pleasure of attempting to eat at this place. A few friends of mine went to the one located on Carolina Beach Road. I was dressed as a patriot, commemorating Independence Day, which was a few days before (Three-corners colonial hat, red-sock blue-sock; whole deal!) Anyway, upon being seated I was immediately laughed at from afar by a few waitresses and some even came up in a group to make fun of me, calling me "Captain Hook." My three other friends were not going to eat at this establishment and had instead ordered next door, with plans to buy drinks here and eat the other food within this restaurant. I told the waitress this, and she seemed fine with it. I ordered my food, and listened to the waitress make awkward small talk. Well, when the others brought the food in from the other place, we were then told we couldn't do that, and the owner of the place came out to give me a lecture on Health Department codes in a snobby and condescending way, despite the fact that she could have overlooked it since we were in a part of the restaurant with no other people present. Not only that, but it was also one of the other fellow's birthday, AND I was dressed as a patriot. I guess if you are a proud American and disliker of spiteful people, I'd recommend not going to this place. The most annoying part of the matter is that she would not allow me to leave without paying for the food I ordered, despite never seeing it. I was perfectly reasonable, and said we'd pay for the drinks which we had consumed, but she said she would call the cops if I didn't pay for the food. Heresy, I say! Want good seafood in Wilmington? Go to Hieronymus.
