Had take out for 2 yesterday. Everything was nicely presented and delicious. Jack Mack has not lost its neck but pleasing customer. Thanks Be and staff for being a constant in Kure Beach.

The management here has there head up their backside. My family has eaten here many times. Tonight we called to place a carry out order and was told they could take carry out orders because they had a wait list of people waiting to be seated. WTF? So I asked what if I use your website and order online and was told if I did they’d just ignore my order. After voicing my opinion that this was stupid as carry out only involves food preparation and not servers I got a half-hearty and totally insincere “I’m sorry”. When I asked who made that policy I was told the manager would not let them take orders when there was a waiting list for seating. No problem Jack Mackerel…we called Big Daddy’s across the street. Not only were they happy to take our almost $300 order but they had it ready for pickup in 20 minutes … and the food quality beat yours hands down. I and my family, including those who live here in Carolina Beach will never come to your business again. When you get managers that have common sense please post it on your website.

I doubt seriously that any of the seafood at this restaurant is LOCALLY CAUGHT. I've eaten there several times because I kept trying to give them a chance to change my mind, but my mind is officially made up now after visiting last week and having a very lame piece of tuna on a salad with lettuce that appeared to be weeks old. So sad that there isn't really anywhere decent to eat on this entire island! Thank goodness I'm a great cook. Perhaps that's the problem. People that know GOOD FOOD will know that the stuff served here is HORRIBLE FOOD. :( C'mon, Pleasure Island restaurants, please start serving LOCAL seafood and put some real CHEFS in your kitchens!

Jack's is our new favorite place on the beach. Food was wonderful both times we ate there over the weekend. Tasty seafood and exceptional service. We ate there once for dinner and two days later for lunch and service was impressive both trips, loved it!

We decided to eat here Saturday afternoon. First we were ignored by service personel. Then were told they forgot to assign at waiter/waiterss to our table. Lame. Then we ate our meal which was nothing to write home about. No baked potatoes,...really. Our main concern was the after effect of the meal. My son, daughterinlaw and I are still suffering from the effects of food poisoning. We have eliminated it down to the shrimp. My son had the meal, I and my daughter in law only tasted one piece. Thank God the baby did not eat any of it.

Visit to my sissy ... Wanted to eat seafood nearby at Kure Beach! WOW WOW WOW; I lived in NE Florida for 16 years; NC before but never had the delicious food and service as here! SHRIMP - fresh; FLOUNDER to die for ..

FRESH, delicious and very reasonable. Will make another trip to see sissy but really to eat at Jack Mackerel's again! Already told a bunch of folks too!

Took a chance because it was close by and I was looking for a quick easy dinner after a long day at the Seafood and Blues Festival. Greatly surprised by what I found. Great food and fantastic service coupled with an unexpectedly good wine selection. A comfortable atmosphere and a menu which is not oriented toward fried family style seafood!! Truly a gem on the beach!!!

great service, great food. one of the best parts of our trip

What a find! Our server was friendly and courteous. My wifes flounder was so delicious we have to go back before we leave for home. The local swordfish was perfectly seasoned, and the calamari was an excellent appetizer. I recommend Jacks to anyone visiting the area.

am a local and usually eat there 1 or 2 times a week in the winter. the food has always been excellent. However, i ate there tonight and the fried shrimp was not a fresh crispy dish as has always been but soggy frozen popcorn shrimp that must have come from "US foods wholesalers". Ask the waiter why they had changed there fresh local seafood approach and he said it was obviously was a lower cost factor reason. I will not be ordering any seafood dishes from them and am concerned now about the quality of their other foods. may be some time before i go back.

I had opportunity to visit Carolina Beach and my friend suggested this place for dinner. Not the best experience to say the least. While the atmosphere was interesting, the service we had was terrible. When it seemed like it was taking an unusal amount of time for our food to come, it seems the waiter had taken it upon himself to not put our order in right away. We waited over 45 minutes for our food to finally come. The appetizer was ok, but the fried shrimp and scallops tasted as though they had been fried in the same oil which had sat for several days. Very odd and bitter taste. Not going back to this location for sure. No excuse for bad service or bad food.

Food was mediocre and pretty poor service. Its more like a glorified Golden Coral. We'll pass...

We stumbled upon this delicious restaurant quite by accident. Who would have thought: a treasure. We have actually driven from Greensboro for a daytrip that included dinner at Jack Mackerel!!!! This past weekend was our fourth dining experience. The food has been consistently delicious.

the food and service were better than expected. very friendly staff and patrons. they need to go non-smoking or vent the bar area better

review_stars 09/05/2008 - MenuPix User
Good food - but not what I expected. It was more upscale and less ' 'family fried seafood' than I expected. I ended up having blackened chicken pasta in a pesto alfredo sauce. It was good - but again not I was hungry for that night. The prices were reasonable - and while the service was good - the back dining room was closed, and we had to eat in the bar. That was ok - but not very scenic like the rest of the restaurant. I would go back - but know now what to expect.

I was told about this place two years ago and finally made it down there. Great Place.

review_stars 05/19/2008 - Island Girl
Jack Mackerel's is a fantastic place to dine. It is now completely non-smoking and still has the same great menu as always. The service is extraordinary and the food is even better. Try the painted salmon! It's delightful! I frequet this restaurant on a regular basis and it maintains a fantastic quality at all times.

We loved the food by it took over an hour to get our dinner and the service was slow. Our waiter was untrained in presenting the wine and slow or never returned to the table to check on us. The food however was extremely fresh.

Food is always very good! We have been several times and have always enjoyed our meals!

We went here for our anniversary and couldn't have chosen a better restaurant. We sat outside on the patio where the atmosphere was quaint and slower paced. The service was very attentive to our needs. We especially enjoyed the crab dip which was excellent!! We will go back if it just for the crab dip and some jack punch.

I work on the island and go there for great food and ambiance. It's my favorite restaurant on Pleasure Island and my first choice to take visitors to.

review_stars 07/15/2007 - Martha
Clean, fun atmosphere with amazing food. A little pricey, but so good you won't mind. Even my salad was perfect. Wouldn't change a thing! The seafood chowder and fired scallops are to die for!

review_stars 05/20/2007 - MenuPix User
Great food, great service. If it was non-smoking it wou.d be even better. You can still smell & breathe smoke in the non-smoking area, however they are doing renovations so maybe this will be improved. We would go there more often if it was not so smoky!
