Dear friends, family, and anyone who travels through Shawano. If you are hungry and wish to stop at a diner, please be assured that your dinning experience will be better off at the local gas station rather than going to Club 22.
On Friday Night I went with family to dinner. We had eaten there before and had pretty good experiences in the past.
However, Friday night was by far one of the worst dinning experiences I have ever bared witness to, let alone partook in.
We arrived during dinner time so it was somewhat busy (5 tables had customers) and were informed there was a half hour wait, which we patiently excepted, prior to being seated at a table. We (7of us) sat at a corner table in the front bar to wait out turn and ordered 2 rounds of drinks.
We were then seated at a corner table in the back of the dining area (which is not very large, but I had no complaints). It had seemed at one point they were attempting to social distance the tables however midway through our experience that had ceased to be a thing.
Our experience began with a 10 minute wait for the waitress to come and ask for drinks and meal orders. She took them and one of our group asked for pitchers of water. We waited another 10 minutes at which time the waitress brought out garlic bread for the table. After 15 more minutes they brought out soups and salads.
We chatted amongst ourselves with no thought to the time it was taking the staff. Finally after 45 minutes of being seated the waitress brought out a 1 small pitcher of water and 6 cups. She didn’t fill the cups?just set them on the table.
I filled about 4 of the cups and ran out of water. I waited to see if the waitress would come back. After 5 minutes she had not, so I went up to the bar and asked for water and a mixed drink. The bartender handed the pitcher to the waitress who then brought out 2 pitchers of water to the table. Our waitress seemed young and kind of new to waitressing, so maybe she just didn’t know what to do. The lady behind the bar.... well we’ll get to her later. After waiting another 45 minutes they finally started to bring out our dinners we had ordered. Mind you, we ordered off their menu that we were given when we were seated. None of us asked for anything specialized. So after waiting for almost 2 hours we finally were starting to get our food..... several of us thought this was odd, but as they set down 5 of the 7 dinners we were told that 2 were not done yet. So we waited another 10 minutes for one plate and 20 minutes for the last one (who went to the only child in our party).
By that time most of us had picked at our plates, several of which were seafood, and were cold upon arrival to the table. We were already disgusted with the 2 hour wait, just to get cold food.
The items brought were subpar and dishes that should have been hot were cold. We waited over 2 hours to get the last dish, just to put it in a box to leave. Upon collecting our groups consolidated disappointment for this meal my mother in law and my aunt went up to the bar and asked to speak with a manager in regards to the situation. The manager refused to speak to them or even come out of the back room. The bartender argued that it hadn’t been 2 hours, and invited that my mother in law and aunt were being ridiculous. She threw the waitress under the buss and said she was new and didn’t know what she was doing. (Due to lack of proper training I assume.) The waitress later said that they couldn’t bring all the food out at the same time due to Covid-19 (to which I can only assume is a blatant lie as mid dining the two tables nearest us within less than the 6ft were both seated and proceeded to wait for their meals for long periods as well.)
The bartender also said that we had ordered weird things off the menu. Several of us ordered stuffed fish (according to the menus was the special of the day), and several others ordered seafood primavera.
(If that is so strange, why is it on the menu then?)
Both my aunt and mother in law responded very sweetly that they just wanted it to be made right. The bar tender initially refused to do anything and just made up excuse after excuse for the delays and lack of service, so they came back to the table feeling defeated. At that time the box for the last dish came so we could be packed up and leave, and as the waitress had not come back with a check I went to the bar to ask for it, to which the bar tender talked over me to my mother in law and said that she took off the price of the last meal that was just served and they would cover the cost of one glass of soda, a glass of milk, and one mixed drink that were ordered at the table.
The bill still came to over $110 dollars. We ordered about $30-40 worth of drinks at the bar prior to being seated that we paid for separately.
To top it off, After the rest of the group left the building one of our group and her daughter had gone to use the restroom and as they came out they could both hear the bartender complaining about us very loudly to the manager in the back, that it in fact, was heard from out in the dining area.
Anyone of those things we could have overlooked, but the overall consistency of poor treatment and delays was just unacceptable when you work in the service industry.
So, if you are hungry and in the Shawano area I recommend going Anywhere Else!
As someone who has worked in the Customer Service Industry for over 20 years, this place and its management are beyond ridiculous, absolutely appalling, and totally not worth the time or energy to visit.

You can believe when we come back up to visit spend time on the lake, we will be avoiding their loathsome diner.
