Date night experience yet definitely a place that welcomes families (including those with young kids). An early Saturday night (about 5:30 pm or maybe a little later) and the place was active. Hostess alerted us to 30 minute wait, took our phone number and offered us a chance to either relax at the bar or sit by the welcoming fireside lounge. We chose the bar but before our order was complete, the hostess found us and offered a hightop by the patio door - chose the table but the night was chilly and the door was open plus it was right behind a group that was enjoying themselves at the bar. The hostess was really nice and offered us a low table that looked as if had appeared by magic - great. Our waitress was really pleasant, had recommendations when we asked, and she was good at her job. Our orders were placed, my date (my husband) had a filling bowl of clam chowder for starters - which he loved. Again, very smart waitress brought me a spoon so I could try the soup. It was a big portion filled to the brim and again very good. We ordered a reuben for hubby, and a beef tip and cheese melt for me; both came with a choice of sides. We chose onion rings. Platters arrived in a timely yet not rushed manner. Nice size portions; at first I thought my portion was small, but looks can be deceiving. I ate only half and brought the rest home; my husband was full from the soup and chose to bring his meal home. The onion rings were nicely portioned and done well. We had our drinks from the bar - large, and very good. Bartender was generous, and mixed the drinks well. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and really watched to make sure that we were enjoying our meal without being pushy. Although we were through with our dinner we relaxed with another drink for my husband as I finished mine. I splurged, and ordered dessert. It seemed to take a while but we were in no rush. After (what we thought) a reasonable amount of time, we checked on our dessert. Again, great waitress, assured us that she had placed the order but wanted us to relax. No worries as we were truly there for a nice date night, and the dessert wasn't a concern. After the waitress went to the kitchen to check on our dessert, I believe it was a manager came by to our table. He asked if we were waiting on the dessert - maybe Anita made a bigger deal about it than we did, and assured us it was coming and it was on him. We replied, "No worries. We are having a great time, our waitress is the best." In a few minutes, the dessert came out with we think another manager who again apologized - no need as we were not unhappy. At the end of the meal, Anita, brings us our check and apologizes for dessert once more...this is getting embarrassing. I finally asked, "Did we look upset? We are not upset." She assured me that the staff only wanted to make sure we were happy. Yes, we were happy. My only advice to diners, and would be diners is this. Take your time to relax at the bar or in the lounge area by the fire. DO NOT take the table that we took - it was a low table that was in direct line of traffic from the waitstaff by the kitchen and other diners. It is not a good area for people with long legs as you have to keep adjusting your legs to keep out of the way. Let the hostess know that you'd like the high booths on the side as you are out of the way and the booths are open so you can observe the room. The other thing you want to be aware of is the noise level. It may have been where we were sitting; however, the noise was like surround sound so it was difficult to hear. We finally - almost right before we left - changed my husband's seat from across the table to next to me which was perfect. Also, the place is dark - we had to use our phone flashlight to see the menu. Maybe turn up the lights? Little Barn is beautiful with a friendly, and accommodating staff. Dinner is served promptly without any feeling of being rushed. The food is excellent, and the portion sizes just right.
