Crossing the Golden Eagle Ferry to Wittmond Hotel felt like stepping into a delicious time capsule, where fried chicken and melt-in-your-mouth sausage are served up family style alongside homemade sides that taste like Grandma's cooking. The walls are decked with portraits of six generations of Wittmonds, and the original mercantile turned museum-bar adds a quirky, antique charm that keeps you entertained while you wait for the next glorious helping. Just remember to bring cash or a check, leave your to-go box dreams at home, and save plenty of room for their legendary cobblers-this is comfort food with a side of history and heart.

Drove up to the Golden Eagle Ferry from St Charles, MO to have a birthday lunch with my best friend's family at this charming spot. Arriving early, I was treated to a tour and a history lesson by the owner, who shared the fascinating background of the hotel spanning six generations. The restaurant exudes a warm, nostalgic ambiance with its antique dí©cor and mouthwatering family-style meal offerings.
