All these old reviews are just that OLD if you go to Fort colony today it has new ownership and staff. The food is excellent and the waitress and staff are friendly and courteous. And the price is right. We have eaten there several times over the last 3 months and at various times,and has always been excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone local and visitors. Happy Tummy's!

Its amazing how people assume the easiest answer is the correct answer. Just to inform the readers.....I am not the one who left those negative posts about this restaurant. I have nothing negative to say about the restaurant itself. it's the behavior of the individuals at the restaurant. The whole situation was allowed to go on for too long. the only thing I WAS upset about was the fact the owner didn't stop the lady from coming in and harassing me and bothering customers and I WAS upset at the waitresses who urged her on when she came in. I have since moved on and wish everyone well at the restaurant. It's a great place to eat. I have since moved on and love my new job.

I as a waitress at this establishment am very proud to work here. i have been here almost 5 yrs and i love my job and my boss and his family they make you feel wanted and are very understanding.....

I was just told about this site as I was looking for a place with good home cooking and was told this site had a lot of info. I can't believe what I've just read about this place. I've lived in this area for nearly 30 years, & yes, that makes me an elderly lady. I also know people that know of the situation that 9lives is referring to. To say she is out of her mind is putting it mildly. Sure, he borrowed the money, but...SHE OFFERED IT when over heard him speaking about his financial problems. She also said not to worry about paying it back. I believe he should have, but as a waiter, everyone knows you don't make much money. If you're behind in bills, don't get enough hours, and business is bad due to horrible food & the boorish owner, it's amazing anyone would think it could be paid back in a timely fashion. Its my understanding that many customers have not returned since all this happened not only because of the poor quality food, which I've tasted & won't ever go back, but because the waiter had to leave due to the stressful conditions and the harassment he had to endure. Her saying her heart goes out to "the woman" is laughable, SHE IS the woman!!! This woman should stop the drama & get a life. A person's past has nothing to do with how they are in the present. I know this guy, he's very personable, courteous, and very detail oriented as a waiter and down right fun to be around. I can't believe she said he was dirty & gross, he's never looked that way in the 3 years I've known him. As for the police involvement, the waiter is the one that called them to get her to leave him alone and to let them know she was probably the one that did damage to his friends vehicle. They are NOT investigating him and never have. I am sorry she has nothing in her life to make her happy, but she shouldn't go around trying to make others as miserable as she seems to be.

Looks like the former waiter is the one leaving all these negative reviews...esp since they are entered around the same date/time! Looks like he also forgot to mention that this customer that he was referring to...the one that was harassing him.......was an old lady!! Over 70yrs old!!! He went to her home, late at night, begging for money like the sore addict he is!! She loaned him the money out of fear and he never paid her back. He'd tell her to go to the restaurant to pick up small amounts of what he borrowed and then would sneak out from the back door like the spineless loser he is. Funny how he forget to leave this part out. The police are involved in this investigation. And, this fool doesn't even have a valid driver's license and had a long history of criminal activity. Imagine a man in his 40's being so low. So pathetic. What's just as pathetic is that he is working at the food court in the Coralville, Ia mall!!!! A man that age!!! When I was there with my granddaughter and seen him there. Definitely made me lose my appetite. I read about what happened to this poor old lady in the paper and was shaken. My heart goes out to her and I hope justice will be served. This is clearly elder abuse. She needs a lawyer. This would be a very easy case. I go to the Fort Colony regularly. I've never had an unpleasant meal or service. Employers need to have better way of accessing there applicant's past history. And those over 60....keep your doors locked and beware of this addict hounding the elderly!!!!

You are correct to say the food there is gross. But the waiter was in no way gross. lol He happened to be one of the most charming waiters we have ever come across. It's a shame he left. The reason for him leaving was the owner let a customer keep coming in that was harassing him every day. So he moved on. Kudos to him. We haven't been back there since he left.

Downright gross. Ate there about a month ago, Sunday specials-$7.95, disgusting old microwave food. Looks like the crap was pushed off somone's old plate, they didn't finish. Who was the gross waiter??

With all the negative publicity this place gets you would think they would do something about it.
Not only is the food and service horrible, it leaks! We were walking from the banquet room and water(dirty)dripped on me as walked through the doorway. And I was wearing white. Our waitress, an elderly woman forgot that we were even there apparently. She gave us our drinks and didnt see her again for over 20 minutes. It wasnt even busy. We watched as she sat and read the newspaper and drank coffee until another waitress reminded her of our presence. How long will this go on? I beleive they ought to sell the place and open a respectful place. We will not be going back. Theres a resturant down the street with better prices and food.

The owner is extremely rude. He was verbaly abusive about a customer who had a legit reason to complain about the food.
I encourage people to look in the kitchen and the walk-in coolers before you eat there. You are apt to end up in the emergency room.
The atmosphere is stuffy and the presentation of the plates are horrible. When the waitress brought our drinks there were sugsr wrapper packets floating in them. When we said something to the owner he said it was the dishwashers fault. Come on! Are you serious? The waitress has to fill that glass before its brought.
In my opinion, you would be better off eating at a city dump.

this is our family's favorite place to go! we have grade school kids and high school kids and there is something on their menu for everyone. the atmosphere has really improved since the current owners took over. they are very friendly and devoted to there restaurant. the staff is prompt and kind. the food is full of flavor. we simply can't get enough of this place. hats off the the owners!

My husband and I really enjoy eating there every Sunday until we had this disturbed male waiter waiting on us for two weekends in a row! What are the odds of that??!! He was just gross....bloodshot eyes, dirty hands, very jittery and very disorganized!Just flat out scary! Well I'm happy to announce that he wasn't here today! The owners proudly stated he is no longer employed at Fort Colony. This will be our usual restaurant to go to every Sunday just like it used to be. The restaurant was very busy today but we were taken care of by a friendly waitress, Jaime. She was prompt and wonderful! The food was tasty and hot! All the waitresses there are just so sweet and clean. That male waiter just ruined our appetite! Ugh!

My family has ate here several times since we moved to Fort Madison, usually for breakfast. Their skillets are awesome, they serve breakfast all day and their supper is just as great. On top of this, all the servers that we have met have been fantastic, very nice and courteous. We love this restaurant. I couldn't imagine anyone there, including the owner or manager, that would not refund money owed or make "terrorist threats" as stated before. That just sounds like a loony person that didn't get their way!

I have ate here many many times. Good home cooking at it`s finest. I really love thier cream of chicken and rice soup, which you can only get on Sunday`s. Breakfast menu can be ordered anytime of the day. Excellent food at very reasonable prices.
