I don't get back to Alpena much but when I do I always look forward to the Sunday potato pancakes. Second to none and great service for a small diner atmosphere!

We ordered pizza and chips and cheese last night. The pizza was good. The crust was not tough or burnt as suggested in a previous comment. The cheese had an odd texture(it doesn't pull like cheese does on a pizza) but it tasted just fine.

The chips were in a double lined Styrofoam box so they did not melt the container, which I appreciate. I agree with the previous poster that there is nothing worse than hot food in an unlined Styrofoam box, but this was not the case with us. The cheese for the chips was a bit on the watery side, but it did not taste like perfume.

Overall we were pretty happy with our order.

The pizza is alright. It has potential to be excellent though. I think they must knead the dough too much or something because the crust is often very tough to chew. On more than one occasion I have actually been delivered a burnt pizza, something I think should NEVER happen. A simple phone call to say we are sorry but something happened and the pizza is not up to serving quality would have made me very happy. I would rather wait a little longer than get served something that is not edible.

Breakfasts are very good. The pancakes are awesome. I love that you can get silver dollar pancakes instead of toast. Never had a bad breakfast. Eggs Benedict is wonderful!

Just stay away from the Nacho cheese however. The last few times we got it, it tasted like a bottle of perfume had been dumped in it. It was really disgusting. There are plenty of cheap fake liquid cheeses out there that taste decent. I think the dollar more a good one costs would be well worth it.

I do wish they would line the Styrofoam boxes before putting hot food inside. Nothing worse than eating something with the faint taste of Styrofoam and wondering if this is hazardous to your health.

There is a lot of good food. This place has potential. Just needs to tweak a few things.

A decent little eatery that is open 24 hours daily, which is rare for the Alpena area. The menu has a variety of Americana fare that is large enough to satisfy most hungry people. I tried an unusual omlette that turned out to be addictive. The ACC is an omlette filled with cottage and American cheese, and it's topped with chili. Most of the customers are flannel wearing smokers that live locally and frequent John Boys daily. The service is friendly and the prices are affordable.
