Yummy food

05/10/2022 - Cheese Steak = GREAT. O-Rings = a ZERO out of 10.
First time at Lefty's. First off, the Lefty's 8" Cheese steak was very tasty, prepared well and the presentation was appetizing. We will go back just for the Cheese Steak. However, I ordered the Onion Rings for $3.99 and they were grossly over fried. Instead of being golden brown on the outside with sweet soft onions on the inside, what I got was a batter that shattered worse than a fried corn taco shell with nothing inside as a reward for my efforts in getting through the very dark, disintegrating, unappetizing, tasteless batter. Instead what I got was that the inside was very dry and the onions had all but disappeared because of the over cook. The batter not only shattered, it was a very dark brown; not the golden brown we all expect for even a frozen O-Ring. For $3.99, I expect more from an order of rings. They were a VERY dark brown and stuck together so I couldn't really tell what a full order is supposed to look like. Almost all of the Rings were stuck inside each other. The onions inside were so over cooked, they had shriveled beyond what one could describe as onions. Either the young man in the kitchen left them in the fryer too long, or the oil needed to be changed in the fryer. Our bill came to $30.91 for two combos. That's two 8" Lefty's Cheese steaks, one fried mushroom, one onion ring and two standard fountain drinks. The man behind the counter, Ali, is a nice man and seems to be willing to please. The young man in the back doesn't speak hardly any English and just stood there and smiled waiting for Ali to translate the feedback. On a scale from 1-5 for the cheese steak alone, I'll give it a 4.5. For the O-Rings, they get a resounding zero. My wife loved the fried mushrooms. I tried them. They were also a little bit over fried, but not as to take away from the experience of eating fried mushrooms. They definitely weren't as bad as the O-Rings. I'll give the mushrooms a 3.5 star rating. Overall, I'll give this dining experience 3 stars based upon the strength of the Cheese Steak alone. If there was nothing else on the menu but Cheese Steaks, I'd give the restaurant 4.5 stars. Again, that's based upon the strength of the Cheese Steak by itself. I hope they do better on their sides. I wont be ordering O-Rings there anytime soon. I'd really like to see Lefty's do well. Let's hope they strive to make their sides of some value.
