ager Solomon Acosta stopped me at the door to tell me that he would not allow my very well trained service dog in the restaurant. When I explained that he's breaking a federal law by denying me access"¦he still insisted he would not allow me to have her in the restaurant. After another employee confirmed to him that he can't deny access"¦He finally said he could put me outside on the sidewalk. Its super cold and windy so that was a ridiculous suggestion. I explained my service dog is considered medical equipment by law and is exactly the same as a wheelchair. I asked him if he would deny access to someone with a wheelchair. Then he said he could find a place in a back room somewhere for us. Hello.. this is not pre-civil rights movement"¦ you can't hide disabled people with their medical equipment in a back room. It was very embarrassing and upsetting to have this exchange in front of the other patrons in the restaurant who were all watching. We left but my husband did go back in to give the card that the Department of Justice provides explaining the American Disabilities Act. I'm tough enough to deal with this type of insensitive ignorance even though I shouldn't have to. It's embarrassing enough to have to deal with epilepsy and having seizures in public. My service dog alerts me before I have a seizure so that I can get down and get safe before falling and getting injured. I need her to be with me 24/7 to prevent serious injury or even death. Hopefully Solomon will find a decent place in his heart to take the time to learn the ADA law so that the next person who needs their medical equipment will not be made to feel the way he made me feel today.
