Have been there a few times as a guest of others and was totally unimpressed. The food, atmosphere, and decor can be described in one word-DRAB! Service lousy, food tasteless, and they must give the kitchen help lessons in how to make the most noise when clearing tables and dropping dishes. Came back one final time since it is close to the hospital. The cheeseburger was cooked beyond recognition and the noise level intolerable-pots, pans, and dishes being dumped in the plastic containers for transport to the dishwasher area.. We were the only ones there-one other twosome leaving (I think they were running) as we entered. The place was closing two hours early-already had locked the back door-no customers in sight. Did get comped on the burger-they wanted to close and did not want an argument. Will never go there again.
BTW-grew up in Queens, Nassau, then Manhattan, so I know delis and diners. This wouldn't last a week in the Big Apple. Go to Brent's, Canters, Nate and Al's...even Jerry's-don't waste your time and money (did I mention they are also over-priced) at Mort's? The only thing you don't get over-charged for is a lottery ticket.
Bea's Bakery next door has great butter cookies and breads-get there early if you want the good rye breads.
