Food was okay - but the service was just terrible - and then they tacked on a 20% service fee for nothing!!! Not a smile, not a thank you, not anything. They brought the large soup without helping split for the four of us. couldn't even bring a big spoon - too much to ask for. Good luck if you go there - you're on your own!

I have a soft spot for hole-in-the-wall looking places with great food and Chef Jia's delivers.
Honey Chili Chicken, Spicy Orange Peel Beef, and Five Spices Duck all excellent. The big, juicy house-made Pot Stickers could be a meal in themselves. Everything has always been terrific. I make a better Hot & Sour Soup, but still very good.
There are two wait staff (neither is the chef/owner). The man is taciturn, admittedly, but gets the job done. The woman is a solid 18%+ tip, always.
Reasonable prices, especially for the quality. FYI, cash only, no credit cards accepted.

I used to eat at Chef Jia's for lunch at least twice a week when I worked downtown in 1991-1992. The best chinese in the city. Discovered it, like many, because House of Nanking was too crowded. The same chef is still going strong. The scallion pancake with peanut sauce alone is worth a visit. The food is very salty but it is consistently good and inexpensive. You must check this place out.

My favorite restaurant in chinatown - the chef is talented.
