I would give this restaurant no stars…. My friend has a gift card that was purchased a little over year ago and even with COVID they will not honor it. Avis Price, apparently one of the principals, when contacted about the issue chastised both the holder and purchaser of the gift card to be more careful about the dates of gift cards(usually there are no expiration dates) and hung up on me. As a business owner and established restaurant it appears that the Avis Price could care less about the patrons of her restaurant. I hope her other partners and her staff are aware of her disregard of clients. I will make sure that everyone I know will never purchase a gift card there as it may not be honored.

Barbara, since when did stating the facts, become "shameful". However the analysis of facts, does require an IQ greater than the room temperature. I do feel sorry for your profound intellectual disability.

The food was excellent. I witnessed no drama, and the staff was very friendly and professional. Very classy place to eat in New Bern.

This is in response to the nasty review posted by Sanjay Kumar on 1/13/2014.
Posting a review like this is shameful and for your information I am in no way affiliated with this restaurant, except as a patron.
Writing this terrible review can only hurt the owners and wonderful staff at this small restaurant. What did you hope to achieve by writing and posting this on the internet? I expect only for your own self importance.
Bay Leaf is such a welcome addition to our city. It is the best Indian food served on the east coast and that includes all of NYC where I lived for 20 years. You owe the owners and staff a written apology.

Food is good but watch out for 1/4th owner Avis Price. She and and drunk "boyfriend" like to hang out at the bar and harass and intimidate good paying customers like myself. She likes to put on a facade of pseudo sophistication and charm but she is far from it. I was a regular customer and used to give them a minimum of 1000 dollars business a month. You would think that they would be extra nice to me. Not so. Avis's son, and her son's girlfriend also work there and have constant boyfriend and girlfriend spats in front of the customers and create a bad atmosphere there and the whole staff is sick and tired of them too. When i complained to the management that her son and his girlfriend were arguing in front of me and slamming my order on my table while they were infighting the staff decided to get rid of them and told me that numerous other customers had complained about this behavior.
I did not go back to their business for a few months and the cook and the chief of the wait staff apologized to me and cajoled me in. Upon returning i place a large order to go and when i reached the place it was after hours at night. Avis Price's fifty year old plus boyfriend, at her instigation, approached me in a threatening way and told me to shut off my phone even though it was after hours and the business was closed and i was there to pick up my order to go. I was literally standing 20 feet away from him. I was later told by the staff that i had " intruded" on their session of self gloatation as Bay Leaf and Avis Price were being featured on TV at the time when i went to pick up my order. I am never going back there again as long as Avis is a part owner. I have talked to the other partners and they are planning to get rid of her.
