I previously left a 5 star review about this place and its amazing turkey sandwich. Sadly, I am updating my review after a bad experience. I have eaten my turkey sandwich with bacon MANY times. I know how it should look taste, and what should be with it. yesterday I ordered my sandwich for takeout and was surprised to see it had very little turkey on it. Two pieces does not make a turkey sandwich. Plus, I was not asked if I wanted to have potato chips, which comes with it, or French fries, which is an additional cost. I went back into the restaurant to tell the man behind the register who assured me that my sandwich had the correct amount of meat on it. I said it didn’t and I have brought many people here because the sandwich was filled with turkey. He said all sandwich meat sandwiches have the same portion. I asked him if he looked at my sandwich and he said yes and it was correct. I said it was not the same and began to wonder why someone would argue with a regular customer about something she orders all the time. Then he said “as a courtesy” he would put more turkey on it, which he did. It then looked like a normal sandwich. I felt the “courtesy” comment was a strange one and was equivalent to saying ,”you’re wrong, but we’ll just shut you up.” So, I called later that evening to discuss this, thinking I would talk about the inconsistency of the execution with a manager. Well, I was SHOCKED to learn this man was the owner!!!!!!! Obviously, the owner doesn’t know what’s going on in his kitchen when he isn’t there. There is an obvious skimping of portions when he is there. I left my number in case he wanted to discuss it with me, which I think if he cared about his customers, he would have. Alas, no phone call, which I think sums up his lack of concern about customers. Plus, he should have know what items come with a sandwich. He has lost me as a customer, as well as my friends and family I brought there. Hope his “courtesy“ was worth it. I guess my search for a consistent turkey sandwich continues. Go there if you enjoy playing the “Wonder what my food will look like today” game.

My wife and I had dinner at Exeter diner tonite and we noticed the portions were incredibly small ! I contacted our waitress and she agreed ! She told us the dayshift chef instructed his staff to reduce the size of the portions. The waitress was apologetic but said there was nothing she could do ! She was a great waitress but I must admit I will refrain from visiting again ! ( 8-29-23)

I love a roast turkey sandwich with bacon on toast. LOVE. I know this sounds simple, but it is my go to diner meal and I crave it sometimes. I was on my way home when such a craving occurred. Believe it or not, a lot of places serve "turkey" that is pressed mystery meat in a roll. Gross! I called to ask if this was the case at Exeter before I placed an order. They assured me it was roast turkey. Ok! I picked up my sandwich in ten minutes and this was definitely the BEST a turkey sandwich with bacon I have ever had at a diner. Roast turkey? Delicious and juicy!!! Check! Bacon? Thick cut and plenty of it!! Check!!! Girls working there were lovely. I live about 25 minutes away, but I would not hesitate to go here for the sandwich. It's that good and the same price as places who give pretend turkey sandwiches. Thank you for serving QUALITY food. Yum!!

This restaurant never fails to impress. I have never had a problem. Actually the one time my steak, from the senior menu, was served well our waitress picked my plate up poste haste, took it to the kitchen. She returned with a luscious, rare, steak. The salad bar is wonderful. (!!!) and the desserts are even better. Exeter serves alcohol in many incarnations—-coffee, wine & beer, and cocktails! Have a mimosa after church. The menu is extensive, so there is a lot to choose. We love to drop in and have yet to be disappointed. Take me at my word. 🤩

OK so here's the deal: I used to really love this place. They do an amazing breakfast. But I have to tell about one experience last night (5/5/11) that left a horrible taste in my mouth.

We went for a late dinner around 11pm, and were being served by a waitress named Pat. The entire time, she was grumpy, dismissive, and unattentive. It took her 7 minutes at one point to actually get a coffee refill and a water that my boyfriend asked for. But just for the benefit of the doubt, we'll put that part aside for the moment.

When we received our bills (In her defense, I will say that she had the right of mind to give the four of us separate checks without us having to ask), somewhere a bit after midnight, I noticed that gratuity was included in our bill. We were all somewhat puzzled as to why this was, since we had seen no signs posted stating any sort of policy of gratuity included after midnight or anything.

So our natural approach was to ask the two other tables near us. One was a table of four middle-aged folks, and the other was a table of three gentlemen about our age (early to late 20's) who seemed to be regulars. Neither of these tables had gratuity added to their bills.

Needless to say, we were angry, but it gets worse. I decided I wanted to give the waitress a chance to explain what caused her to do this first. When we went to check out, I asked her why, and she couldn't give me a straight answer. She said, "Oh, it's just something we do." I pointed out that the other tables nearby had no gratuities included. She stated, "Management enables us to put gratuity on people's bills for whatever reasons we have." I asked her what reason she had to do this. She blurted, "Well, some young folks don't put a tip on." I explained calmly but firmly to her that I have worked in a restaurant before, and I would have given her a nice tip, despite the terrible service, if it weren't for the fact that she made a superficial judgement about us.

This is where it gets interesting. She had the gall to say, and I am paraphrasing, "Well, you can leave as much as you like, but I'm doing you a favor by only charging you this tip, so you don't HAVE to pay as much." At this point, I was not only angry, but offended. My boyfriend asked to see the manager. She replied, and I'm not paraphrasing here, capitalization used to demonstrate her tone, "WELL, we DO have business cards RIGHT by the REGISTER." I picked up a business card, and noted that there was no manager's name on it. We asked her for the manager's name. She replied, "He's the one who runs the Facebook page." We asked for the manager's name again. She replied, "The manager's son, the assistant manager, will be in tomorrow morning." We had to ask A THIRD TIME for the manager's name before she finally spat out, "Michael."

She started ringing us up, and gave us the total for the bill after her added gratuity, after we had clearly asked her to remove it and had explained that gratuities are only for a job well done. We pointed this out to her. She then started typing on her calculator slowly for several MINUTES to calculate our bill, when she could have easily just added the amounts listed on the checks after tax and before her forced gratuity.

At this point, it escalated even further. While she was typing on her calculator, she started calling us names and hurling insults. She said we were being childish, and that no matter how old some people get, they still act like children. My boyfriend leaned over the counter and asserted, "I'm 28 years old. I'm hardly a child." If I hadn't been so angry and struck wordless, I would have said something to the effect of, "Last I knew, calling names was childish, not making a complaint about a paid service poorly executed."
The worst part is while she was standing there arguing with us and being generally just rude, a gentleman was waiting to pay. I did apologize to him on the way out for the wait, but I would be willing to bet money that she didn't apologize to him, probably only whined about us to him. But that part is speculation.

At no point did this woman offer any semblance of good customer service. She never tried to make it right at all; she never asked what could have made it better; she never offered any apology for her behavior. Even just a simple, diplomatic, "I'm sorry if I made you feel that I discriminated against you, it wasn't my intent," would have been sufficient, but there was no negotiation, concern for our viewpoint, nothing.

In any case, I'm sorry to have to report this, because I have been here for breakfast several times, with good prices and great eggs and bacon, and some of the waitresses and waiters here are truly nice, gems of people. It's a shame that such a bad egg has to destroy a dining experience.

As long as Pat is working there, I will not patronize this diner again. We plan to call the manager this morning, and if need be, I will file this same complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I do not know why we were discriminated against; I assume it had to do with our age, but frankly, any waiter who treats me right off the bat like I won't give a tip, will be right, and any waiter who does an outstanding job, I continue to tip generously.

If you want great food, come here. The portions are large and the food is great. It's very homestyle, but with a flare. Stuffed shells alfredo marinara is top-notch and extremely filling. Breakfasts are delicious and served all day. The staff is friendly and quick; I've never waited to get a table and I've never waited an exorbitant amount of time for food (or beverage refill, for that matter).

Came for dinner last night, and I was pretty impressed with the quality of food. Waitress was pretty nice and helpful at helping me choose a dish since there is an overwhelming amount of items on the menu. I'll definitely dine again. Prices are very easy on the wallet.

The service was horrible. We waited 15 minutes to get menus, and another 10 to get drinks. We finally left after 40 minutes when our order had not been taken. We stopped to pay for our drinks, no apology, nothing and we still paid $7.50 for 4 sodas!

The salad bar is great and the dinner menu is large with daily specials at affordable prices. The senior menu is a great deal for those over 55! I did have problems with a few of the waitresses being more interested in socializing with each other than waiting on customers. It took over 5 minutes to even be asked what I wanted to drink and they weren't busy. Also, I had my kids with me and the waitresses were very loud and using obscene language. The service was slow, but the food was good. You take your chances here with the service.

Not your normal family restaurant/diner. they have fantastic dinner prices at such a low price. you definitely get more than you pay for there.
